100k Service Update

Post by Cohn »

Hey dudes,

Just wanted to update you on the 100k service i received on my GPX. The guy did a fantastic job, and at an extremely reasonable price compared to the rest of the places.

As i mentioned in another thread, i was able to grab the gates timing belt for $135 (for those of you interested model number is T987). As you all know the OEM's cost around $300. He ended up charging $200 labour for this section.

He replaced Cam seals (which weren't leaking, however was a good idea incase they failed later on)

Changed the oil filters, re-oiled the car including Gear Box.

Gave the car a full coolant flush, refilled.

Got 6 platinum plugs installed.

Refitted my reconditioned starter motor

Checked out bits and pieces etc...

Ended up costing for the service $600 (this includes everything above) + $130 for the timing belt (which i already bought)

Really happy with the results, cars running really nicely. $730 compared with the lowest qoute i got from around 4 different places being around $1000 really makes it worthwhile.

So if any of you are ever interested, just send me an email, and i'll give you his number etc...

P.S. With regard to the Starter Motor that broke down on me, it cost me $180 to recondition the thing. This is just a rough guide maybe for anyone who ever has a failing solenoid or starter motor.

Sorry, he's in Sydney

About the timing belt, its a Gates T987, which actually comes from Gates in Melbourne, so give them a call. They are called Gates Australia PTY LTD, i think the number was something like 97979666???

sounds like a good deal
i am walking funny from my mechanic bending me over and raping me!

i had timing belt ($225), fan belt, cam seals, front disc brakes and pads, rocker cover? fuel injection clean out, sparkies, all my filters replaced etc and what ever else for $2200!!!!
$1000 for labour and $1200 for parts~~

I was not impressed, long story but the quote worked out different to the job. Having said that everyone i called quoted me 6-800 for camseals and timing belt just in labour, they said its a bitch to do!

I must admit the car is running a lot better but i think i paid far too much
this was done by PROMECH in richmond who work performance cars, all my other services with tehm cost $165!
be careful where u go!
