My aircon has DIED, it blows out hot air even at 17c on the climate control.
Do FTO's need re-gassing regularly? How much will it cost and how long should it last?

Don't run the air conditioner at all when it can't blow cool air, the longer you do it, the greater risk you run of blowing your compressor. If you do that, it's _big_ money.
Regassing should be be around the $100 mark.
Mine was over pressurised and actually blew it apart inside. Luckily, the FTO has a bend in the pipe before the compressor so all the little beads got caught there and didn't reach the compressor so it only cost me $500 to fix.
