Just got new rims!

Post by Guni_GuGu »

Hi, I just bought these BSA 300 17x7 rims, I think the offset is 40, LINK and I was curious what size tyres I would be able to get on them..

I was really keen on 225/40, or even 235, but I'm concerened about rubbing.. I really don't want any rubbing at all, and I would like to keep the speedo in tack if I could, but I'm not as overly fussed on that, as I am, about rubbing..

I was also curious, would 225 be too wide on the actual rim itself, as it's only 7inches wide?

If anyone could help out, it would be much appreciated.

there should be some search results on this one...

but i find that 215' 40 17 is fine for our cars.. but it depends on whether your car is lowered or not

OK.. doing some searching, and some shopping, I found out, 225/40, is like nearly impossible to get, and if you could, insanely expensive, so I decided to go with some hankook's k104's 215/40/17.

Is 185 a tyre a good deal you think?

Ive heard k104's are really good for RWD cars, but im not sure how they perform on a FWD.

IVe used GIII's and Es100's and have to say they are verry good for a street tyre. and thoroughly reccomend them both.
the Es100 ends up a little cheaper i think. around 250

I think the k104 would probably be the best 180-200 tyre you can buy. compared with silverstone FTz's and nakangs.

really depends what you want out of this tyre.

Just depends what your buget is... if u have a lot of $$ then go for the GIII's. otherwise just shop around till u find some you like..

Does anyone else use 215/45 R17 tyres? I have those on my car, and according to the calculator here:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

They result in a 2.3% error in speedo reading over stock (speedo reads too slow). The 215/40/ R17s result in a 1.2% too fast reading on the speedo. I wonder if its worth swapping to the 40 profile tyres next time I need some. Hope they're not more expensive...

I use 215/45 R17 Potenza GIIIs with RSR lowering springs. But 215 is probably as wide as you possibly want to go without rubbing at full lock.

Aesthetic wise, I think the 40 profile looks too skinny under the large wheel arches of the FTO, especially without lowering.

I also got 215/45 on 17" rims.
I find that that size is really good with standard high FTO's, as they fit pretty snugly. And the car don't look like it's like a 4WD... I get very very slight rubing.

And yes, my speedo is slightly out, but it's not much down low.

Hmm that's interesting - might have to stick with the 215/45s then. I don't get any rubbing at full lock either.

And I agree about the lowered look thing - in fact I told my insurance company that I didn't know if it was lowered or not because I couldn't tell without getting underneath and looking at the suspension

Here's a side view of mine:

Not very good because it's too dark - I'll have to take some more when I get it back (next week, woohoo!!)

I reckon 215 45 17 are perfect' for the fto. aswell as my suspension setup being quite firm i wanted a little bit more play in the wheels, so i had changed from 215/40/17 to 215 45 17. I also had to raise the car 2 cms to allow for the new profile.

overall its a much better look and performs just as good as the 40 profile.
