I know this probably has been covered many times...
BUT, I can get one for relatively cheap here (I am on holidays overseas) so I need to make a decission, as the filter I initialy wanted is not sold here (apex' Power intake)
Now, I read the revies it boosts power up quite a bit, but on this other site I read it's filtration is very poor.
How true if at all is this? What would people do? Pay less and get an HKS (the green mushroom one) or pay a bit more and get the Apexi power intake filter?
I bought my Apexi Power Intake Filter from ebay, a guy from Hong Kong post it to me from Japan. Only cost me AUS$100 including postage.
And I bought the adapter from Bunnings for AUS$2.70.
So all up $102.70 I had a Apexi Power Intake. Very good filter indeed.
HKS is a good filter as well, however, lacks in fine particle filtration, which means engine damage. Apexi does not have this problem.
Also, you have to oil the HKS filter, which is a hassle and that oil ends up in your engine. Apexi is hassle free, you just have to wash it.
The Apexi dual funnel Power Intake has evolved from the Apexi Super Intake filter with some subtle refinements in the design and filter element. According to Apexi, this resulted in a 10% reduction in pressure drop by utilizing an upper and lower funnel. The Power Intake reduces air turbulence within the filter and creates smooth air flow into the throttle body. Maintenance is kept to a minimum as this filter is a dry-type air filter and will alleviate the problem of filter oil from "wet" air cleaners, interfering with the air-flow meter.
Thanks for the help guys but those are the sites I have already checked which is what I am basing my decision on.
The thing is I am unsure of how reliable that site is which claims HKS has very poor filtration. Is it really that bad or is it some marketing scam for Apexi?
I need to make a decision fairly soon as I am leaving for australia on the 13th of feb.
PS. None of induction kits fit on my car, I am looking for filter only, I will custom make a CAI.
How are those blitz metal woven filters? In that test it didn't go good filtration wise, and to be honest I am not surprised (looks like it wont filter good)
How much gain did you get from the apexi? Was it noticable?
I definately can feel engine breaths better with Apexi, comparing to my stock filter, especially in high rpms, thats for sure.
Also, I think mivec kick in is more noticable.
When it comes to sound, ohhh boy.
First I tried the Apexi filter with a commercial plastic flexible pipe, just to test. OMG!!!! the sound was unbeliavable, more than roaring and screaming. It was lauder than most of the exhaust systems I have ever heart, especially when it hits the mivec.
However, the pipe was getting too hot - so the air goes into my engine - for the obvious reasons.
So I used a heat insulation tape all around the pipe, and it did the work.
Don't you worry man... I am even considering a single turbo conversion if you haven't heard... then we'll see...
But turbo is probably unlikely... why what you doing to power??? Hmmm maybe I should let you do what you are doing and wait while you'll be my guinea pig... hmmmm....
But what are you doing to it? Really? Sent me a pm if you want to keep it between us (and face it, in a month when I'm back I'll see your car anyway, so no need to go hiding things from me) so tell me
hey spetz
ive had my hks pod for 2 and a half years... and well ... i honestly dont think it gets rid of all the little bits of dust but my engine isnt dead... infact its running fine... i cant compare it to anything though... one thing you will have to remember is to either find a suitable oil for the foam element or buy a new one regularly... especially if you have a CAI setup cos it gets pretty dirty...
i have considered changing to an apexi, but i already custom made an enclosure for the pod and no other filter will fit in there but the hks mushroom...
