Knocking Noise (metal to metal sorta)

Post by HRD2BQT »

Hi guys,

I have recently replaced my old engine mounts to a much newer n stronger ones and it helps eliminate the knocking noise. After a month or so, another weird knocking noise came along. Definitely not from the mount again.
Could it be the rubber bushing all around?.....It only happens when taking off and occassional braking. Also when going over a speed bumps or potholes. I can also hear it when turning to left. Suspension problem??

It's not the latch on the bonnet is it? Sometimes it could be that. :?

It sounds like a suspension noise. Only hear mine on sharp bumps etc. I'll take mine in on mon and see what they come up with.

i find that when driving down a bumpy road or over speed bumps i get a knocking noise around the rear of the car... sounds like its coming from suspension area as well. its not always there, but down uneven road it often is. it annoys me a lot, but get around by turning the stereo up lol

Sway bar bushes. Had mine looked at today. Apparently the cross member has to come down. My guy reckons it's gonna be one of those jobs. Gets done next week.

I had the whole box and dice. Loud knocking, front and rear, absolutely terrible over uneven road.
Totally new struts and springs fixed the problem :)
I was going to fit new drop links but twice they told me the ones I had were fine. They also said that the harder the ride (combo between size of wheels and stiffness of suspension), some knocking is inevitable. The drop links have a hard polyurethane (sp?) joint inside them. In your hands they feel solid and smooth, but put a tonne of car pushing on them and they do give a little bit making for a slight knocking noise in some situations on a hard ride.
