Earlier model vs Later

Post by SchumieFan »

Ok... so some of you may know (or not) im looking at getting another FTO but a later (facelift) model compared to my 95 GPX.

Now.

I went into a dealer today and was looking at a 1998 GX, $14.990 (neg)

i was talking to the guy (listening to him prattle on like he knew about it) and when i lifted the hood.... WTF 8O non mivec????? so what the difference between a GX and a GR??? cause i thought the GX was mivec, but apparently not, in which case... what is the point in a GX at all?

the different models might of had different modifications or even wear and tear would of led to power loss, did you compare a 95 gpx to a 97 gx or something ?? I cant remember but im pretty sure the gx has 190hp gpx has 200 though gx weighs 1150 and gpx weighs 1180. but both tip models weigh the same (i have nfi why).
Its very hard to determine which car is quicker by driving one then the other, when they are so similar too

I think you need more then one comparison, like at the age of any fto, even if it's a 97, it still greatly depends on the service history and how it was treated, one could be a lemon, or one could be a freak too!

I had to make a similar decision, between a older GPX, and a very godd contidion GX, i choose the GPX for the fact that i wouldn't be happy if i didn't have Mivec.

The only way to do it, is test drive you cars with a G-Force meter! hahaha...

Thats whats swaying me away from it, i have a 95 gpx tip thats done 134XXX ks and i was looking at this 98 GX tip or a 95 GPX Manual both have done 80XXX ks, the GX is 5 grand more expensive and the only reason id buy it is because its a later model plus its the only "facelift" model ive seen here. but alas.... no mivec... 95 gpx is in excellent condition for its age, looks like no collisions basically the same as my current one exept manual and a hell of a lot tidier.

but- like the guy at the GX's car yard said.... i wouldnt be gaining anything through buying the 95 gpx... other than the fact its manual... but he would say that, hes trying to sell me the GX...

what to do.... what to do..... :(

manuel owners POV, Manuel means a sh*t load, if your worried about performance theres no way a tip will beat a manuel in fto terms (unless you got a gs lol) there is a rediculas performance dif
if the tip is faster, that gpx has been abused! i got a time slipt to put up

i could put you in contact with someone in Christchurch that might be able to help you get a facelift GPX from Japan, If you are seriously going to upgrade. If you are willing to pay for it before it arrives I think he will get one for you.

I will be calling him next week about some engine parts and could ask him if he could bring one in for you.

nah im pretty sure ill be getting the 95 GPX manual, the whole point in this is to turn it into a show car for 2006, so age was a bit of an issue but ive decided that i want the mivec and i want the manual and the 95 fits my range almost perfectly.

still, i dont see the point in a GX... its just a GR with a few extra bits that tyou can get with a GR anyway
