i think you might be thinking of the noise the BOV makes it is a valve that releases the boost pressure during gear changes on the turbo charged cars

Danny's hit it right on the head... what you need is a turbo conversion... and dannys the best person to talk to about that! ;-)

personally.. i hate the Blow off valve noise... but i guess its all personal taste

Maybe you could upgrade your sound system and get a cd of BOV sounds.. then cruise down the street with the window down..
im sure that would be cheaper than aturbo conversion!

Actually there is one way to get that sound without actually getting a turbo conversion done.

It is a simple electronic box with a speaker that emits a "whoosh" sound.
Yes I know its cheesy ;) but hey it is another option.
Sorry I can't remember where the website I saw it was :(

...LOL, can't leave out those important HKS/Trust/APEX'i/5Zigen stickers now can we?? :P
My bf's wrx had tat sound when he changed his air filter... its the cone shaped one with bright yellow sponge in it, think the brand is Trust... the sound is quite soft but still can be heard even from inside the car...
yep, mine does the exact same noise as well when pulling in low revs, but my filter is an Apex'i Powerflow pod filter.

I love it when you're racing a zilla GTS-T and they don't expect the FTO to beat them (element of surprise only). So u're hammering it and ALL u can hear is their BOV going off while they try to catch up

Problems are there are so many GTS on the rd, & they look just like a GTS-T, & also i've seen few that mock up like GTR, so ppl would think they racing against GTS-T or GTR, when in fact is only a GTS with sound effect!!!!

I think a stock FTO can beat a GTS-T. Depends on the GTS-T.. some are slower than others.. probably depends on the boost they are running and the condition of their turbo.. but the other night I beat a GTS-T and im prettie sure its a GTS-T cos I can hear his BOV and my FTO is stock except for a pod air filter.. but its a manual GPX... so dunno if a tip can still beat a GTS-T...

i would say the condition of the GTS-T would play a major part in the drag race... afterall, they are closing in near the 10yr old mark already... They may have slightly more power, but they also have a much more broader torque peak throughout the revband than the FTO so if they lose out it's most likely that their engines/drivetrain are not well tuned or cared for... or the driver skill is 'not up to scratch'...

having said that, i'd be very surprised to see a tip GPX beat a GTS-T though...

Like I said, I think I beat him because I had the element of surprise. He didn't expect me to be as fast as I was. My car is pretty much stock though, with the exception of 17' rims and exceptionally well gripping Bridgestone Potenza GIII tyres.

Or it could have been like FTO338 said, a GTS with fake BOV sound effect. Maybe I got lucky or the zilla wasn't tuned up to scratch :P
