Track Car Logistics?

Post by spetz »

Hey guys,

Does anyone own a dedicated track car as well as a daily?

I have a daily driver and a 6A12 converted Lancer which would be good for track work.

My issues:
1. I only have a single garage (this is where my daily resides)
2. The Lancer is stored 300km away from me
3. I should be moving cities, putting the Lancer 600km away from me (Lancer is in Canberra, I live in Sydney, I should be moving to Melbourne).

My solutions:
1. Move into a place with 2 garages (not keen on this as the cost will really go up
2. Drive to the Lancer (300km or 600km) and then take it to the track (an additional 150km to Wakefield). This makes things pretty difficult
3. Register the Lancer for about 3 months of the year and track it for those 3 months while storing my daily where the Lancer is currently
4. Finding a cheap storage place for the Lancer not far from me. Currently the cheapest is $50 a week, so at $2,500+ a year I am not sure it is worth it.

Any other suggestions/recommendations?

Was gonna say park it on the street but I guess that's not feasible/possible in a big city and remembered you probably can't have an unregistered car on the street. Can you get a restricted licence to drive it occasionally? Like a club one or something?

That's not a bad idea although I think pending the state and permit you get a maximum amount of KMs you can drive per year...

Failing that find a Melbourne member with a bunch of spare room for another car and pay them a bit of rent.

Does anyone know anything about club car licenses?
If there is a km limit per year, I assume all it needs to do is cover getting to the track and back, while the km added on track would not count?

Street parking is not a possibility.
Getting a shed also is not a possibility. I've looked into them but I have nowhere to put the shed.

Bennoz, space for any more?

Lol. Bit like my local snake handler, dumps all the snakes he finds into his shed... which has his weed plantation in it

yeah I'd suggest it if you can put it in the backyard or something. otherwise.. back to the 3x6 marquee + detachable walls idea
