Engine hunting (Not ISC)

Hi everyone. I'm hoping I have a common problem but my mechanic doesn't seem to have a clue.

My 95 GPX revs are hunting while I'm driving at a constant speed at the same speed in each gear. eg 49km/h in 4th. I guess it's probably at the same RPM in each gear. I'm pretty sure it's not the Idle Speed Controller as I have completely unplugged it and it still has the problem and it has been replaced. Is there anything else that cause the engine to be hunting?

Please somebody help, it's driving me nuts!!!

i'm actually having a bit of problem trying to picture an FTO running at 49kph in 1st at the same RPM as 4th!

Imagine stabbing the accelerator every half a second while you're driving. That's what it feels like. It happens at around 1500 rpm in each gear. Does that make more sense 02NV?

Clean the throttle body!
Get some spray in cleaner, I'll bet that fixes you.

That's a very valid suggestion Dash but unfortunately it's been done. I'm going to see if Mitsubishi have a clue. Hopefully they'll have some luck.

Yes, I fixed the problem. I adjusted the Throttle Position Sensor. The auto transmission uses this to sense how much you have your foot on the accelerator. The problem I had was I would have my foot slightly on the accelerator but the transmission thought the car was just idling. (throttle would be slightly open without turning the TPS) So the transmission didn't know what to do. If you turn the TPS anti clockwise, this will cause the transmission to change gear later, kind of like having a shift kit in it, and stop the problem you have. This is because it thinks the throttle is down harder than it actually is. I turned it all the way anti clock wise, then turned it back until the problem I had came back, then adjusted it accordingly.
