A few tyre questions

Post by bjk »

Couldn't think of a thread title that encapsulated all I wanted to discuss.

Anyway, so far best price I've got for the Kumho KU36's in 235/40R18 is $210 fitted and balanced at my local T-Marts. This is after I quoted him a few places I'd rung around already, and that I could get them landed for $188 each in SA from Tempe. Think I'd get much better than $210?

Also, the guy mentioned this thing about "Parallel imports" that sounded a little BS to me. Said that the tyres I could be getting from NSW were essentially not the real deal from Kumho themselves. Anybody know anything about that?

Couldn't just ask in one of your other 10 wheel related threads?

Didn't think of that. :facepalm2:

I would say this is slightly different, which it is, but I guess it doesn't really matter.

So your tyre width grip thread where you were asking about the prices of KU36's was not relevant? :geny:

Different kind of relevance..?

Where's that shovel that Astron had earlier... :silent:

Gotta say though, quite a scattering of prices that I've gotten so far.

For those who find such things interesting:

For the KU36's. 235/40R18
$
320
250
309 (down to 210)
290
275
335
409

And the KU31's in the same size.
$
220
190
185
189
205
225
230

Unrelated question. How much money is your time worth?. Because with all the effort you are expending, I would have said that you've exceeded the most expensive tyre on the list already :P

About 19.86 per hour at my current job.

I'm close, I swear! But if someone says, "hey, would you like product x for $30" and someone else offers the exact same thing for $25, you be an idiot to pay 30.

But if it takes 10 hours to research it at 19.86 per hour, youve just lost a fortune.

Anyway. Just grab the cheapest you can find, or the one your gut says to go with.
I know I did heaps of research on my wheels/tyres
But eventually you just need to take the plunge. Find a style you like, put them on, wrap em in rubber and go nuts. Personally I love my $180 falken fk452s,
For road driving, an entry level performance tyre is normally all you need (car only weighs just over a tonne), and my eBay $700 rims look to part too :D

And as Phil would say: if you break it, fix it. (normally by driving it like he's stolen it if I'm not mistaken)

We should just give him his own section of the forum for all his threads,
Then just take bets on how long it will be until someone says totes.
