fog light switch not turning off the fog lights

hi guys,

ive got this problem recently where the fog light switch will turn on and off the dash lights fine, but it does not turn off the fog lights. So i am having to drive with the fog light fuse out so that my battery does not drain.

does anyone else have a similar experience?

also this might just be coincidence, but the fig light switch was a bit sticky (not coming out from the on position cleanly) for a while... but now since the fog light problem surfaced, the switch is not sticky anymore.

appreciate any suggestions

sounds like a relay is sticking

so just a matter of pulling apart the dash and getting behind the switch and unstick what ever is stuck?

chances are you will find that the relay is burnt out and has to be replaced (its the entire switch)...

the foglight switch is used by Galants and i think lancers now as well so its not that expensive to replace (i've been through 3 of these)

the switch itself sounds dodgy. might need some crc to free it up inside.

if it was burnt out, would the foggies stay permanently on?

yeah they do... i had that happen a few times... what actually happens is it gets so hot it melts the plastic and disrupts the path of the ballbearings in the switch...

i think they are like 30-40... i used to get mine from japan until i found out they were the same price here.

no mine stays on even when the key is out, do you disconnect/reconnect the fuse everytime? your battery will run flat otherwise...

undo the two screens at the top of your instrument cluster... pull out the plastic dash surround and disconnect the plug from the switch :)

Well, my Fog light switch decided to give up on me last night. :( Does anybody know what the part number is for the switch, and whereabouts in Melbourne I should get one?

hey guys, just to throw a spanner in the works...

would this explain my problem with my foglights whereas i turn them on and only the park lights come on... this was after i blew the HEADLIGHT fuse

been through all this! I've been through two fog light switches take it apart, and i bet you the back of the switch is melted!

Its becuase the relay in actually behind the fog swtich and the relay isnt able to take the long hours they are turned on for.

I acutally bypassed the swtich hooked up a second switch with its own relays and stuff.

kempys in NZ have heaps. 60 bucks from what i remember.

For those folkes with the melty switch, I am one of them. If the switch still works to turn the park lights on and off like mine does then you can use an external relay to turn on the fogs, just use the output of the switch that is still working to turn the parkers on.
