Full Roof Replacement

Did a search and many threads have suggested that you can buy a new roof and install it but has anyone here actually done it?

Do they actually cut the roof out (as per diagram below) and weld the new one on whilst possible bracing the roof temporarily?

Thoughts?

Gholdy had it done, it's just the skin, separate from the frame.

Shouldn't really ever cut the frame.

I had it done to one of my older Camry's about 6 years ago they cut the whole skin off because of rust
cost me about $1200 back then.

was perfect when finished

sold it to my nephew and its still perfect

That's actually not a bad price considering the amount of work.
Thanks Dwayne will keep it in mind if I decide to wander this way

That picture is the first one, so LOL, yes!

2nd one however is still right way up.
Can't remember if he had bubbles or not... Think he had a tiny few up the back?

Having said that, would be an easier and more thorough repair with the skin off... and can still drive around with old one in time being.

Could be, but would rather just send off the car for them to do it on the spot... With how bad the sunroof was rusted in Lawso's though... Not sure what condition the roof would be in... My sunroof has no rust at all, so it must have been looked after better... Maybe... lol ..

So would probably say they will just cut bits out, and weld in some new metal ...

From quick inspection the rust only affected the sunroof itself, not the roof supporting it.
Better inspection could say otherwise however.

But yeah.
