Selling to a wreckers?

Post by Lee85 »

Was involved in my second accident last weekend and think it's time to cut my losses and part ways. I don't have the time or space to part it out myself so I'm thinking about just taking it to a wreckers. Has anyone done this before? What were your experiences like? Any tips?

The car is still drivable btw.

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately you wont get a lot for it. Couple hundred bucks, not even. Depends how bad it is.

Where is the car?

I will take it off your hands if its cheap and has some goodies ;)

I'm in Western Sydney.

I remember one of the members on here a while back getting her rear end caved in and still getting offered a couple of grand from a Jap wrecker?

The damage on mine is purely cosmetic but nothing defect worthy. Roof rust, inconsistent paint(fine in some areas, faded or peeling in others), busted tail light cover and some damage to the rear bar and drivers door door frame. Drives fine. Just had a brand new starter, battery and 2 rear tyres put on. I'll get some pics up later.

I would say 1k at most is what you could get at a wrecker.
I just had to add it ......

As mentioned, if its cheap and has some goodies then I may consider it.

If not, then dstocks might be interested.

A wrecker will not give you a lot for it. They mostly give scrap value which is a couple hundred bucks, unless it's going to a specialised place like an import yard etc.

Here's some pics of the damage. Everything else is fine pretty much. Only cosmetic. Runs really well. I love driving it but it's just not practical for me any more. Haven't got the time or know how to give it the TLC it deserves plus I need something bigger. I do a lot of car pooling and it's a bit inconvenient when you and all your mates are basketball players lol.

You could always work something out with dstocks if he is interested.

Well, if Dwayne wants it, I'd offer to drive it down and give a bit of cash his way for the gearbox.
Having said that, bit harder to get the box out at his.

Also, 'may' be interested in the seats....

EDIT: Thinking about it more, I'd probably buy the whole car for myself... at the right price!

Harder to get the box out at his? Why?

My guess is that he would rip the engine out. Took us about 3 hours last time.

Anyway, back on topic.

Sounds a bit obvious but as much as I can get ideally lol. It'll go towards a new car. PM me some offers. I might throw an EOI post up in the for sale forum.

Sorry, I'm not one for bartering off nothing.
I'd offer you $1.00

If someone offers, I might offer over that, otherwise post what you'd take and I'd make an offer from that.

Rego runs our end of August. I was hoping to get at least 2k out of it coz I'm pretty sure I could get that or more if I parted it all separately myself, but I just don't have the time for that.
