Difference between wiring harnesses
Quick question, I have pulled the ECU and the attached engine bay wiring harness out of the GR.. Can I leave the part from the fusebox in there (from the non mivec) or do I have to swap that out for the mivec one as well?
i.e. is the part of the loom from the fusebox with battery terminals the same with mivec and non mivec? Trying to skip unneccessary work.

Re: Difference between wiring harnesses
I may be wrong and i mean completly wrong! So dont quote me on this,
But the fuse box essentially should be okay
I mean the fuse box runs off you ecu and does things like lights horn mirrors windows etc,
All you engine managment stuff like crank and cam sensor and air etc runs direct to your ecu i think it completly bypasses your fuse box,
That being said the fuse box should be okay to leave in
But please for the love of god get a second opinion cause i could be wrong haha

Re: Difference between wiring harnesses
Can u compare your existig fuse box and one from the mivec? Make sure theyre the same?
Wires to wires amount of wires and any extra things etc
If theyre identicle then u should ve fine,
Depending on models you may have extra ones though
For foglight and abs and airbags but they should be obvious

They Look similar and I cant think why they would be different (although you will need to make sure the correct fuses are in place if the mivec engine needs others). Not 100% sure though as I have not done a conversion myself.

Had a chat to Bennoz today and he seems to think it should be OK to leave in.silverGPX wrote:Would it run a diff size fusible link for the alternator or something cos of mivec
The mivec solenoids are on the loom from the ECU according to what Bennoz could see on SN00R2.
The alternator was my point of concern. I'm going to wait for Dras to come through here as he's done it before

I fix cars.

Alternator is dependant only for loom factor, they couple with the relay systems.Daniel2019 wrote:Had a chat to Bennoz today and he seems to think it should be OK to leave in.silverGPX wrote:Would it run a diff size fusible link for the alternator or something cos of mivec

The fuse box has no extra attachments whatsoever to the rest of the engine other than fitted accessories. (TC, etc)

Should have bumped me via a pm, I have been a little slack following the forum.Daniel2019 wrote:Had a chat to Bennoz today and he seems to think it should be OK to leave in.silverGPX wrote:Would it run a diff size fusible link for the alternator or something cos of mivec

I certainly didn't remove the fuse box wiring. There are I believe 2 plugs on the loom that are connected underneath the fuse box, so it does need to come off.
As for the alternator loom, the loom itself is different but the both just bolt to the fuse box.
I spent a fair bit of time tracing all the connections and checking that all the pins on the looms line up, and they do. The internal loom mates up perfectly with the Mivec loom, so you just need to get the engine bay loom through the firewall.
Me? Bitter? f**k no. I think it's hilarious.

Re: Difference between wiring harnesses
Thank you for the info dras & Astron.
Bennoz explained the same thing today.
When the engine was pulled out, all we disconnected was the plugs direct to the engine and what was attached to it (i.e. alternator) as far as I know.
All I need to change is the loom from the ECU, and I can leave the fusebox one right where it is, is what you're saying isnt it?
Take out ECU and connected loom (which ive done!), swap the wires from the fusebox to the alternator (seperate form what I can understand?) from non mivec to mivec and leave the thicker loom that comes from the fusebox, correct?
The alternator wiring is the one on the side of the fusebox toward the front of the car, correct? With the two screws to connect?
