Car Audio Installers

Post by ObsidianRadio »

Hey all,

Just wondering how much a car audio installer SHOULD charge to have a COMPLETE re-wire of amps, subs, speakers an head unit done?

My sound system's sh*t itself and I know nothing about wiring or electronics, bit of a head-f**k really

Cheers!
Jack

^^^*facepalm*^^^

its actually quite easy really just some parts are annoying and fidly, installers charge way too much if u ask me, unless u spend a shitload on a full setup and install comes with the price but a full install like that, probably close to the 400 mark around that, depends who u ask, if they say anymore than that just slap them and walk away haha (:

Audio wiring is VERY simple.

Power wire going from battery to amp(s)
Ground wire going from chassis to amp(s)
Remote wire going from head unit to amp(s)
RCA cables going from head unit to amp(s)
Speaker wire going from amp(s) to speakers/subs

And that is pretty much your basic audio wiring.

The hard part is hiding the cables..'

eg. cracked your audio surrounds/center console into pieces when taking it out and putting it back in'

That's the part I'm nervous about. To access the existing wires, I will have to remove my carpet and everything. I also work 50+ hour weeks and have no time. Would rather drop it somewhere before work and pick it up afterwards...

Who cares if I don't know how to properly wire sound systems? No need to facepalm, I've never done it before and I think i's pretty understandable that I don't want to f**k it up and waste my very limited time! Especially considering I have to basically completely dismantle my interior when it's my daily, and that if i f**k it up or can't do it in time, I will have no vehicle for work...

Why rewire when the wiring is already there?

You don't have to remove the carpet, if u are running cables to the amp just pop the kick panels off unclip the carpet from the edge and remove the bolt that holds the seatbelt in at the bottom.

Then just pop the backseat out. Also to run the speaker cable down the middle just take out the two rear screws on the centre console.

Seems everybody is missing the point lol - the point of this thread is to see if anyone knows a local sparky to do this for him, not do it himself  and to see what the going rate is

Okay, I'll explain.

The previous owner did a SHOCKING wiring job. It runs dead straight down the middle of the carpet, with some wires under the passenger seat and others underneath the divers side. Had Tim (vipfto) have a crack at it and every time we try and make connections, the left side front speakers won't work anymore and when they plug in, the amp goes into shutdown and huge boom noises come out all speakers. Apparently there's an unknown crossover there somewhere and I can't find where it is. Also, the wiring is so old that it's gone brittle. The wiring from the standard speakers and head unit is STILL there, and they have just left them there without disconnecting them. There's just so much to do and with a lack of tools, knowledge and the hottest weather Adelaide's seen in a while, combined with the fact I don't actually have a garage... Yeah, sh*t. Haha

It's not doggy running wires down each side of the car, as you should run power down one side and RCA/ speaker wire on the other side. This prevents static/ feedback into the speakers.
