Car broke down but NFI why

Ok about half an hour ago my car died. It was driving along and suddenly the car stopped giving any form of power. The battery gauge went dead, the engine went dead, the lot.

I open up the bonnet and see the battery full of charge but the terminals for the battery and the rest of the wiring melting (I assume that it was overheating when I was driving). The car won't read any charge going through when i try start the car so I take the terminals are gone or the engine is gone...I certainly hope it's not the latter.

Note: two days ago I bought a new battery for my car. I asked repco for a battery and they gave me three options: 400cca 540cca or 600cca. Previously I was running 400 but felt it wasn't quite enough so I got the 540 this time...could this be the issue and if so I'd assume repco is liable right?

Ummm, wires melting?

wires wont melt from driving the car.

check your fuses and see what's blown.

Ah I think I know what happened. The wiring loom couldn't reach so I turned the battery around and connected it. Did it correctly except the positive terminal even with the rubber cap on was touching my strut bar and must have made a circuit of some sort...anyway fk does this mean I need a new ecu and wiring loom?

Only 1 way to find out.

Did you check the fuses...

Sorry to say it but yeah it kind of is. Self inflicted f**k ups are always good for a laugh

Hopefully your fuses will have saved you, but check all your wiring for damage and make sure you replace all 'melted' wiring. You don't want to put it back together only to end up with a short somewhere else. Might be an idea to get a mobile auto elec around to have a look.

Yeah thought the rubber cap might've saved me but guess not. All the fuses look fine so I'll send it to an auto elec tmr to see what is what. Plus gotta return battery lol

Ah k sh*t, so anyway i'm thinking its an ECU problem or wiring harness that connects the battery thingymabob. Any ball park figures on the replacement of these two items? And even better, anybody know where i can get them? 0_0"

Not really, just gotta source the box, fuse and enough high amp wire to get to the engine from the boot

Highly doubt its your ECU. You need to check the fusable links between batt, fuse box, alternator.

Yeah you're right. Ended up changing the overheated wiring for $15 and BAM car works again like a charm. Even ended up giving it a coolant flush and oil change from my spare time. Thing is though, my windows dont work now, hmm....

Nah, wouldn't be your fuses.

Rotate your tyres, check the pressure. Ensure the windscreen washer bottle is FULL.
The atmospheric temperature MUST be at exactly 25 degrees celcius.
AND THEN, check my first post.

Ok so I did everything as I am having the same problem (I even added some windex into my washer bottle because f**k dust), except I cant seem to find the switch to adjust atmospheric temperature.. can someone link me to a guide or something?
