Evo Short shifter to suit FTO
Hey guys, i Just fitted a evo short shifter into my Galant. The stock shifter look exactly like the FTO's. So i think it might be an alternative to FTO drivers. Bear in mind it will lean towards the handbrake level due to the lack of curve. and need a little grinding on the plastic bits. Look at the pic and you will understand.
that is at stock setting, i moved it to the shortest setting and i think the throw is reduced about 40%.(damn bloody short)
ebay Eclipse Evo Evolution mr Short Shifter Shift 4 5 6 7 8 and you will see it.
Not hard, took me around 4 hours+ but i think i can half the time since i know how to do it now.

Great work mate!
Would it be possible for you to take a photo of how the gear knob sits after the installation?

Those plastic cups pop off mate, if the ball joints are the same size underneath, you could simply transfer your FTO ones over rather than grind stuff.
Also, was there a plate to go under the shifter assembly to raise it up & stop the lower joint hitting the car when in short mode?

not the cup Ben, the plastic frame, the cable on the right was touching the plastic frame as it was pushed down due to the shortest setting.Bennoz wrote:Those plastic cups pop off mate, if the ball joints are the same size underneath, you could simply transfer your FTO ones over rather than grind stuff.

I did swap out the cup, the one that came with it was a little too big.
it came with 4 metal thingy that is used to raised it. similar to what you did but just different parts

Re: Evo Short shifter to suit FTO
its the other way round. short shifter works with changing the pivot point. the longer bottom half move more when the pivot point is higher.. (require less movement on the top, in this instance, the shifting throw)Sahin wrote:Wouldn't that be the longest throw? :/
Ben can explain better.

Cheers for that mate.
How do you find it feels compared to the stock shifter? Does it feel awkward with it being a little offset?

Re: Evo Short shifter to suit FTO
At first yes, but after the pivot point sort of bedded into the assy everything was awesome. just need to engage reverse first before releasing handbrake.Vectose wrote:Cheers for that mate.

throw is so short, it feels awesome. helps on heel toe as well when having some fun.RPM wont drop as much when shifting.
come around if you plan to do it, I'll help you out. or can have a feel at the throw if you ever come to penrith.
