Opinion if this is problem or not

Post by den0va »

Hey all, so lately I've noticed that my FTO's exhaust has gotten quieter since I bought the car a couple months back. There is more engine noise when revving and barely any from my exhaust. The only time you hear my exhaust is from take off to about 2500 rpm, but from 2500 and up you can't hear the exhaust just the engine roaring. It used to make sound right through the revs, but not any more; and no I haven't gotten used to the noise. My exhaust system at the moment has stock headers and a custom 2.5" (I think it is 2.5") pipe from the flange with what appears to be a catalytic converter welded on and no resonators. Could it be a flow issue?

Possibly a blocked cat, but that is fairly rare.
Are you losing any power? If your blocked at all you will lose a fair amount of power.

Let's begin a diagnostic review...

QUESTION 1: Has Lawso been near your car?

Could it be a blown manifold gasket?

You have gotten use to it! Nothing makes an exhaust softer. A blocked cat will make a car louder. Exhaust leak via the manifold etc will also make it louder.

When I was done for 102DB by the EPA I had to switched back over to a stock system which put it to 89DB. When I first changed it back over I thought it was weird having a quiet car. Now a few months later I think my exhaust is just as loud as my 102DB system but it's not!
