Mivec problem

Post by ZFL45H1 »

Hey guys so PHIL069 and myself adjusted my tappets the other day and engine sounds so quote I love it but the problem is I can't use mivec anymore and the engine light is on but only after warmed up so this is what I have done so far
1: checked all plugs ( about to do it again with intake off
2: been put on a computer and no codes came up
Is there something else I could do or I have forgotten
Cheers
gotta get there one day :)

If the engine light turns on, you will have an error code.

I suggest you try this method viewtopic.php?f=21&t=14667 to retrieve your error codes.

I have used both methods and I have seen the computer show silly things.
Me? Bitter? f**k no. I think it's hilarious.

Agree ^^

It's gotta be a plug somewhere, gotta be something you undid when doing the tappets. Also check for cracked or brittle wires near the plug ends. Once you successfully pull a code from the ECU, you'll be able to narrow down what plug / sensor to look at.

ZFL45H1 came around to my place this afternoon, he asked to borrow the tappet adjust tool as he wanted to double check my work 8O :?
I brang home works fancy new $12,000 G-SCAN workshop diagnostic computer and plugged it into his FTO and got a injector fault code.
I then ran a test on each injector, and #1 was not operating.
ZFL45H1s' dad, who also came over, reach in under the intake chamber and the plug was a bit loose, on further inspection one of the pins in the injector was bent down, it was straightened, the injector plugged back in, then I deleted the fault code, and  the engine fired on all cylinders.

You owe me one ZFL45H1

My mechanics told me that the scan tools on ebay and sh*t for $50 or whatever (heaps of guys on rx8club have them) sometimes give a faulty reading & not the real problem. And the REAL diagnostic computers cost heaps.

Is that right?

The $50 scan tools on ebay are OBDII and FTO's use MITII, so no they won't work. As stated the scan tool I used is worth $12,000.
But you can buy an evoscan scan tool for a couple of hundred, do a forum search, a couple of members have bought it :D

:geny: you have a RX8, you can buy a fairly good OBDII scan tool for a couple of hundred as well, ask @ Bursons

Yes proper ones cost a bomb, but I've got one of these:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Car-Scan-ELM ... 4758wt_905

Coupled with the Android only *sniggers* app called Torque and its never been wrong. I paid $4.99 for the app & it does countless things, including reading & clearing error codes. Its also worked on every post 2000 model car I've plugged it into from a Swifts to Hyundais to a Commodore.
