FTO Burning engine oil( GR model)

Post by o0s130o »

hi there,

got the car for 4 years without any problems,

but recently like 3~4 months ago it started to burn engine oil.

Not too much at the beginning, but after that it getting worse like i need to top up engine oil abt 1L per fortnight( maybe less)

Some of the mechanic telling me that it will cause this problem base on:

1.)Piston ring is gone and keep burning oil
2.)common problem for this engine, same as Galant n Magna
3.) Tappeting noise causing burning due to wron lifter.

So any ides or suggestion from u guys, that can tell me to do/test/feel/ or wtever to find out

what's causing this problem, million thanks n have a gd one.

Model: FTO GR 6A12 Engine
Km: 110,576km
5MT with noisy tapping

Step 1) Replace tappets (GRs arent adjustable as far as I know, only GPX (someone clarify?))
Step 2) Fix/replace piston ring.

Probably best to get a mechanic to do it.
I fix cars.

Non mivecs are non adjustable
Mivecs are adjustable
(that's what you should have said)
I'd be worried if it was a piston ring...

Just replace or recover the centre console. (ask bass_twitch for some materials)
or
As Payaya would say "stepper motor"

Seriously.....
Could have a valve cracked or not seating properly allowing oil from the top of the motor into the combustion chamber.
Need to go have some tests such as blow by, compression, or even vacuum gauge testing can also show up quite a few issues :D

Go get a halfcut. Cheaper to replace the whole donk than rebuild it.

Your car blowing smoke? No oil leaks? Check your PCV valve bearing to see if its still moving, if not clean it out.
