Cheapest place to buy strut top?

Post by -Nighthawk- »

Hi everyone,
I'm looking at replacing my strut tops to get rid of the annoying knocking sound. Where is the cheapest place to buy these from?
Thanks

Pedders mate. Part number 5878 "Mitsubish Strut Mount"

Between $50 & $70 bucks depending on what Pedders you go to.

Thanks Bennoz. Just picked up some from my local Pedders for $65 each. I was an idiot and thought it said "Repco", luckily Pedders was only 2 minutes down the road :P

Did it get rid of the knock? More common than a noisy strut top is saggy engine mounts causing the bang if your bushes, sway bar links and bump stops are fine.

Sorry to threadromance, but has anyone had any issue with the Pedders tops?

I've just rebuilt the entire drivers side suspension on Kaz's car (we're talking lower control arm bushes, sway bar bushes, droplinks, ball joint replacement, shock replacement, f*cken even the wheel bearings) only to find the strut top, which I bought new from Pedders less than 12 months ago, has completely collapsed, causing a hideous knock...

I'm gonna buy a new one today, but from somewhere else.

Michael and I put ours in less than 3 months ago so we can't really give you any feedback.

Maybe you just got a bad one?

will it help prolong the life of the strut top by adding more grease to the bearings?

I think i'm experiencing this sound you speak of... Whenever my engine is usually idling, I head a rattling sound coming from the front left of my engine bay, sounds like metal rattling around? As soon as I'm moving, it usually stops though. Would this be the likely culprit? Been trying to figure out what it is for ages but had no luck!

It had nothing to do with the bearings, the rubber insert had all but collapsed, pushing the top cap of the spring assembly into the underside of the car causing the knock. The rubber grade used is too soft. Especially since they have them listed to suit both Lancers & Mirages.

Ended up going back to Pedders, but this time bought a Manga unit. Stiffer grade rubber to cope with the extra weight.
