Major Surgery er Service

Post by smorison »

Unique AutoSports had my car for a week, talk about a major service. But i can't fault them on a fantastic job they did getting my car back upto its normal high performance. Apart from my major service they had to replace the sandwich plates, the water pump. What a DRAMA! So it appears my car wasn't looked after so well in Japan.!.

It's pretty common for FTO's to leak a bit of oil out of the sandwich plates (between the cam covers) but mine were in a really bad shape. I recommend if yours are leaking you replace them at the time of your major service as it will save you heaps in the long run if they have to be replaced later, probably save around 1000-1500 in mechanic's time as the engine has to be litterally pulled to bits.

Make sure your mechanic check your waterpump and replace it if necessary. Whilst these are an expesnive item (about $550.00) if it brakes you will cook your engine. Unique AutoSports are currently investigating bringing these in directly from Japan or America rather than have to pay Mitsubishi Australia's extosionary high prices.

If you are in sydney i thoroughly recommend going to Unique for your service, they may be a little bit more expensive than other people however their attention to detail and high quality of service will ensure that your car put's up with everything you can do to it!

If things keep going the way they are with Mitsubishi Australia, you wont have a choice but to buy it from Japan or America. :(

I assume you want to know how much it will cost you, as this will probably be different to how much Steve paid

ruchi: i've told you i don't get much of a discount as i would rather build performance products for everyone to use rather than have special pricing for me.

fto617: depending on the condition of everything you'd be looking at a figure of around 3000-3500 depending on how bad everything is. this includes:
* major server (full details on their website).
* supply / fit new waterpump.
* supply / clean / fit new sandwich plates.

to give you an idea of what's requried to fit the water pump, alternator and AC have to be taken out. engine has to be unmounted on the left side (looking at the engine) engine Jacked up and waterpump removed! it's a long slow process that is unfortunately common to all V6 transverse mounted engines.

Steve, I don't have an issue with it. It's one of the perks you get for running the club / forum. And even that $ discount doesn't truly compensate you for all the extra work and effort you do.

I don't view this as advertising UAS, we understand the relationship there. If anything, us interstaters would like to have a similar place were we could get work done with confidence.

Mikey is working to build relationships with companies in VIC at the moment so hopefully the quality of workmanship will be available soon
