Hey want to make a table out of an engine and thought it would be pretty sweet to make it out of a fto engine... maybe there is a cheaper option but i like originality. from what i have read i should go with an aliminium block as it will weigh 20-25kg. whats a good engine to use? may have to go with a larger engine as even the v8's made into coffee tables ussualy have wood underneath them. Idea's? this will happen its just a matter of time and im pretty keen on this project

Well, ive got 3 with blown head gaskets. Happy to offload one real cheap

I wouldant mind doing the same in my garage, finding the motor at the right price would be the hard part.

i was thinking of chrome dipping my J20 and putting a glass payne on it

canberra dstocks, even if it were free id probably look local no offence, i realy want an fto engine, are they aliminuim? how much do they weigh? imagine how cool the quad cam will look as a table. if not an ls1 is what i will go with, starting to learn theres no replacment for displacment especially when i have nearly 200 complaints against my name (according to 2 victorian policeofficer means i have to make that little red needle reach 8k with exhaust and intake mods where people cant differentiate between speed and sound( the only correlation being that they both start with 's') lol any tips etc or any engines offered from victoria???

most people just use the block to make the table... are you talkin bout keeping the heads on?

if so, forget about the weight of the block... and NO, the block is not alloy...

is on the j20 but

damn, so the fto engines arnt alloy? would be cool tyo keep the timing setup. to heavy? any other ideas for engines to use?

the heads are alloy but the blocks are cast ( correct me if im wrong?? but)

if u wanna keep the heads on and the belt attached your looking at a good 10-15 extra kg, plus itll be a lot harder to mount...

worth doing if thats what u want but all you will see is tappets not the 'traditional' cylinders

Ihave a completely stripped out one in my garage no pistons/crank in block etc just completely stripped and with completely stripped heads on it still weighs a sh*t load. I can drag it on my own would never be able to lift it and can only just lift block on my own.

It does dismantle easy though just using 4x head bolts to keep heads to block.

Thought about getting a glas top made and powder coating it but wife says no way thats going inside (cant understand why though who woulnt want an engine as a coffee table?)

hmmm theres a lot of videos on youtube of them already made but no1 has a step by step guide and no1 talks about how much each engine weighs. (think the fto engin with everything weighs 140kg. i guess it goes like this
1 strip the engine down to the block
2 remove the pistons, main pulley etc
3 soak these in acid or somthing and clean withwire brush on drill
4 maybe get all parts sandblasted
5 bolt or weld the conrods with the pistons attatched to the top of the block
6 put custion cups and a glass top on the top of the 4 pistons
7 maybe make a wooden block for under the engine

right?

ok bit more reading and it seems i need an aluminium block. want a v6 or a v8 if i can. what are some idea's? think the 5 or 5.7l ls1 outta a commonwhore might be aliminium...... anywhere that tell you? wiki it pretty vague on the engine block materials

Yup, I got a spare 6A12 block as well.

For V8 alloy donk, go for an LS2.

block waiting so that you can swap over with you old one when your ready.

what for? If current motor goes its evo transplant time

plus hyundai already did that

The block I've got is Lawso's old motor.

I wouldn't even sell it to a blind man as an anchor!

haha but this would be cheaper and could be done over time and still be able to use the car!

its not worth a cent.

i'd have it back to make a table though, making sure the snapped valves are welded back onto the piston
