LOL
"this is not a day for young people to learn to drive"
Damnit, how else am i going to learn to drive a car? haha
Not sure if ill be keen to drive to victoria for a track day...maybe but i think im moving house in july.
Out of curiosity it doesnt state it but im assuming that suit n helmet are compulsory? And will it be an open track no speed limit deal or is it a shut up/sit down and drive slow in a nice neat line behind the others deal?

there is a section about saftey, helmet, long sleeve, closed shoes/boots. no speed limit but 80% of the car and driver so if u do some 'backyard drifting' or your all over the road blocking more powerfull cars your gonna get flagged. That being said they cant really see how fastw your going except at the end of the main straight (1/8th of the track) and they dont know how many mods are on your car. ie: theycould assume have upgraded your performance and handling by 20% so you could go flat out .

gr8 day even and you dont have to take your car on the track every time but the atmosphere and the cars make it worth going

yeah, being on a track is a lot different than your normal roads. maybe u could play a few simulator games(gran turismo/forza) and that will give u an idea of what its like. for $30 its a gr8 day and you get to see lots of cool cars 2

Games on the Xbox or PS is never the same as real life.
Best thing to do is get out on the track start slow and work your way up. Follow other ppl around to see where they are on the track to get an idea of lines and so on.
But most of all have fun :D

put me down as a "maybe" for this.
MR2 club has booked the track for a practice on 3rd October, so could get some laps in as practice for the practice

I'd love to go to a track day, but I would prefer not killing my engine / tires :P

this will only happen if you are an idiot. its a fun day. you drive as fast (within limits) or at a resonable speed that you are comfortable with. you are not going for the lap record, just driving within your limits.

he meant tire/engine wears when you're on the track, redlining and cornering at high speed.
if he aint gonna hit mivec or test his skills on the corner, he can always do a casual drive up the mountain road.

7,500 is a sufficient time to shift with a mivec engine and as long as your engine has good oil and u check all the fluids and have a good conditiion engine you shouldent have any problems, ive had my fto at 210 kms......180 on winton never a problem, i use 10-40 synthetic nulon i think. maybe 0-40 i dont remember but everything is in check, get ya trans serviced though if its a tip. all good which is more than i can say for the alternator and timing belt

Providing you dont rape your car for extended periods of time on the track, and only take a couple of hot laps at a time, your car should be fine - we should all be taking a break every 15 or so minutes anyway to let our brakes cool down and the likes anyway as most of us are stock bar a few exhausts and intakes here and there, i know i will be if i come.
a good tip is to make sure your car has been recently aligned and balanced, as well as oil under 5000km's old. Remember to bring any extra fluids you can in case something happens, and above all - dont go outside your comfort zone.

I think the best advice for anyone going to the track with a 15 year old car is to bleed the brake fluid thoroughly and change your pads. Oh & if your tyres have seen more than a years road service, be prepared to replace them after the track day.

You'll know when to come off the track, you'll have no brake pedal & left & the car won't go round a corner cause you've cooked your rubber. Plus, if you're unfit, it really can be exhausting...

Hehe, id prefer to come off the track before im headed for the hairpin with no brakes or rubber
also, it has to be said, either by me or someone else so i might as well take the fall

bens right but, The biggest challenge is to find where the grip is on the track, and you can waste a lot of rubber searching for the good mechanical grip on a track.

which again, is a why its a good idea to take it slowly at first and following peoples lines as az said.
