i bought my mrs the top of the line ipad in december for christmas.... i dont like apple products

i refuse to buy an iphone or an ipad... i just cant go with the consumer hype.

however.

upon seeing its uses i do think its a great little device.

she uses it for checking her email and facebook without having to boot up or wake up her laptop around the house. it has 3g and wireless so we've stayed in motels and easily got on the internet. as well as the 3g helping her to find her way round melbourne through google maps. i must say i am really impressed.

it will NOT replace a laptop. it is limited in what it can do. but for someone who wants a bigger version of an iphone with the functionality of a laptop im quite glad i bought it for her.
but wait a month for the ipad 2... i got an email from apple giving me a 'preview' of the ipad 2 3 days after i bought the ipad! not happy about that!

Wait until all the Apple fanboys dump their ipad 1s on ebay for ipad 2s and buy one cheap.

Or get a Galaxy Tab. Or just use the laptop you already have.

Wouldn't piss one out if it was one fire.

The longer you 'wait' with Crapple products, the closer you get to the imminent failure date that's hard coded into the hardware.

Binned my sisters 12.5 month old ipod just last week :x Astounds me how good they are with their self destruction timeline.

+1
I never really understood the point of an iPad. The iPhone does it all and fits in your pocket, and if you want it as a laptop, BUY a laptop!! Lol

Ok ok ok.

I got an ipad just before I went on holiday, so we could watch movies and sh*t on the 22 hour flight to London. It was simply the best fuckin thing EVER. It was so fun funny people pulling out their laptop's only to very shortly have to put them back away as the battery died. You could see their envy as we continued to watch hour after hour of movies etc.

HOWEVER, that is were the fun ends. It is simply an over priced toy. It does not even come close to a laptop in terms of work/study applications.

As schumie said great for email, internet surfing and the occasional game but seriously that is it.

I am glad I got the ipad for the trip (and for free) but after using it and seeing it's capabilities, there is no way in hell I would pay $1000 for one.

It has also firmly concreted my absolute HATE for apple.

If you plan on getting any work done on it and need something for uni stay away from the ipad,

If you were after something portable and boots quick, get a ULV notebook and pop a solid state drive inside it so you get a full sized keyboard, fully functioning OS, fuckloads of battery life (mine gets close to 10 hours) and a pretty powerful machine compared to an ipad (I run ArchiCAD on mine as well as some games to pass the time in boring lectures  ) Its really thing and light, weights less than 1.3kg, 13" screen and less than 1 inch thick at its thickest point.

Sell your current laptop if you have to as this would replace the need for it.
