i hurt my baby :'''''''''''(
All my fault. I was only doing the speed limit but it was wet. Came into the off camber round about corner in the wet at just my usual pace around 50 or something. Understeered very badly and just plowed straight ahead. Hit the curb at around 30 i reckon. Needless to say the wheel is now pushed back up against the guard and in a pretty bad way. No body damage or anything though which is good.
In the grand scheme of things it's not that bad. I didn't damage anyone elses property, the councils property, or hurt anyone. It's a good learning experience.
Got it towed to a mechanic and had a 3 hour public transport ride home. Feel free to speculate parts that may be damaged and how much it may be to get repaired =[

Always wipe 20% of your normal speed off when its wet.... and go get some decent tyres.
- I reckon you'll need a new rim, or the old one repaired if its not too bad
- Possible strut assembly
- Lower control arm
- Steering arm
- A wheel aligment

Worst is broken/damaged driveshaft, aint it?
Btw, get new set of rims with wider profile just so you won't get the same sh*t in the future.

yeah well i was getting new rims on monday....doubt I'll be able to afford them now. Not the cars or the rims fault though, I should have been more weary of the conditions. I also hate the fact it's at a random mechanic a long way away from my house as that was the only place i could afford to get it towed to.
Thanks for the speculation Bennoz

Damn mate, sorry to hear.
It never ceases to amaze me how sh*t my traction is in the wet. I have to drive like a total granny.
I have 18x8" with Federal 595SS in 35 profile and even in third gear if I start accelerating any more than about 10% on the way out of a roundabout I will start understeering.
Not sure how much whell alignment or vehicle rigidity affects this but it pisses me off no end anyway. Maybe the Federals really do just suck balls in the wet.
Strangely, to a certain extent sometimes the harder I accelerate the better it grips depending on the amount of turn I have on, so I wonder if that's the LSD doing it's thing or what.

fwd sucks in the wet any slipping and your off the corner
and unless you back off and turn the other way to gain grip your fucked
sucks about the car man its a bit of a kick in the balls but least you didnt smash it fully
its just a slight set back and a good lession learnt
do you think the droplinks would be fucked to ?

Re: i hurt my baby :'''''''''''(
you want to hope you havent bent the chassis rail or the crossmember underneath. Ive bought a couple of wrecks that had hit a gutter like that and had been written off. From above there doesnt appear to be too much damage, but when you look below, another story. Worst case scenario:
Bent chassis rail
Bent crossmember
bent control arms
bent/snapped tierod ends
bent/snapped sway bar
buckled/broken rims
snapped/cracked hubs
bent shocks
Oh and if the gutter collected the tow point on the way through, there could be more damage than that.
Again, this is worst case.....

A bit more info. The wheel never actually mounted the gutter. It sort of hit on about a 45 degree angle and bounced off. This was because almost instantly i realised i wasn't going to make it around so i was on full lock to the right and full brake. Afterwards in order to get it out of the roundabout I limped it forwards. There was still drive to the wheel although it was rubbing on the guard. There was also some limited steering. Upon visual inspection the axle was pushed up against...something and looked like it might have been bent. The control arm had like a small chunk out of it about the size of half a 10c piece but didn't appear to be bent. That's all I could see at like 1am with a phone as a light source. I'll let you know the full extent of the damage as soon as the mechanic takes a look (if he ever gets round to it).

What are you talking about RWD can be just as sucky (as you put it), it all comes down to how you drive.bduffman wrote:fwd sucks in the wet any slipping and your off the corner

Okay guys so I thought about my finances and if the damage costs are over $1200 I'm simply not going to have enough money to have it repaired
Knowing that is actually killing me....
