Hi! Finally got an FTO (GPX) :)
Hey guys,
I've always loved FTO's! So finally after being a student for 5 years I finally can afford something better than a $1200 shitbox .
I picked up this baby recently and am having a blast driving it around!
Here is a couple dodgy iphone pics:
I'm quite new to the FTO scene and although have read quite about about them in the past few years, still had a question or 2.
1. My front bar is SUPER low... like 7cm off the ground low... I was thinking of ways how to either make it a bit higher... or get a whole new front bar.
Any suggestions?
2. Seems to be a rev limiter or something around 6000rpm in first. Is this normal? Would resetting the ECU fix this issue? I'm not too sure. It's not that i really need to rev it over 6000 in first.. just wondering why it doesn't.
Thanks all cya around!

Hey wttc nice looking car you have there.Do you thrash the car when its cold?
Because it has a progressive rev limiter meaning it wont rev past 6000rpm
so it wont wear the motor out.As for front bumper i think you
should leave it and get used to driving slow over bumps because it looks like
it hasnt been lowered.

Re: Hi! Finally got an FTO (GPX) :)
Well, thats a bozz front bar which effects the clearance of the car quite a bit, but not 7cm of clearance. Im not sure about where you are but in NSW, 10cm is the legal limit. In my opinion, it must be lowered as well for the clearance to be that small. If this is the case, one of the following is likely:
1. You have coil overs fitted and they have been wound down. To fix, adjust for more clearance.
2. You have lowering springs. Get a set of stock springs (or equivalent) and have them fitted.
If the springs are not black, is definitely aftermarket.
With respect to the limiter, as stated above, when the car is cold, the engine will protect itself by retarding if over revved. Wait for the car to warm up before giving it a boot, not good for the engine if you dont. You certainly should not need to go over 6000 rpm in first.
Welcome to the club BTW.

Welcome!
You'll want to warm your car up for at least 5 minutes before you drive it. Better for the engine. After that, while driving, give it another few minutes of driving before you floor it.
Revving it hard when you start the car without giving it the chance to warm up is a sure way to decrease the mechanical quality of your car

Re: Hi! Finally got an FTO (GPX) :)
Thanks for the welcomes .
I don't thrash it cold, i warmed the car up for a few good minutes then drove it around for a couple more before testing it out .
I'll try again after at least 15 minutes of driving after work tonight.
Yeah the clearance is REALLY low, i'll have a check for aftermarket springs. Also i think the tbar isnt sitting as high as it could, sagging a tiny bit. Guess it all affects clearance.
Thanks all!

Re: Hi! Finally got an FTO (GPX) :)
dude!!! Don't ditch the front bar man!!!
i reckon that's the best-looking front bar available for pre-facelift fto.
i got the same bar as yours and paid 600 bux for it to get a fresh one (unpainted).
it's even rare as hell now as i heard, dmd the only ozzie supplier for that bar has stopped stocking it.
So, treasure it man!! I scrapped mine a lot too as i'm not good at angling over a bump or kerb.
Need to angle to the side diagonally and slow down to static then turn wheel to the other side on full lock to let one side of the wheel goes up the bump 1st then only the other wheel up.

Hehe yeah it would be a shame to, it looks greatdude!!! Don't ditch the front bar man!!!
I have a feeling the front is lowered a bit too much (can kind of tell looking at the pictures) so i'll see if they can be adjusted. Just don't want to get a done by the cops for being defective!

Wttc nice car man. +1 keep the Bozz speed front bar and learn to angle your car lol... Any way if you decide on changing it, you shouldnt have to much trouble selling it on here as they are now discontinued.

I measured mine today and its 6.5cm clearance haha.vipfto wrote:yip im one of the few that have one too, I have coilovers and raised car a little to be careful with it as cant get them anymore, but as said just be careful over bumps/spoon drains driveways etcclipsed wrote:Hehe yeah it would be a shame to, it looks greatdude!!!
