FTO Vs RX-7 series 7

Post by FTOluv »

ok, just got back from a nite with the mrss. driving her back, we notice a red RX-& series 7 in front of us with the number plates SXCEY. Knowing my best mate just bought one exactly the same I decided to race him.
The guy saw me coming and started zig zagging through traffic on Punt Rd (Melbourne) . My gf got excited and urged me to giv chase (how supportive of her :D ) . By the looks of things this guy probably had a filter and exhaust , i had the same thing but also a heavy sub setup in my boot! my car weighs an extra 150kg! Nevertheless, i decided to race him at the next set of lights. my car is tiptronic so i held down the brake and only revved it to about 2.5k rpm, lights turned green and we were off!!
RX-7 beat me by only 1.5 car lengths travelling at 120km, i then had to stop because of oncoming traffic :(

being very happy with my acheivment i set home with a grin knowing that tomorrow i can gloat about my performance to my mate with the RX-7!

A well driven series 7 will absolutely murder an FTO. They are a much much faster car. Not wanting to talk down your result, but you kept up with the driver, not the car.

Yes, RX-7 are fast... You only have a slight chance on corners...

mrx is right, a well driven FD-series RX7 even in stock form will absolutely murder the FTO...

seeing how well you managed to stay with the RX7, i'd have to say either the driver was geeing you on (not giving it a big stick) or he/she was hopeless at the launch...

but it's for fun nevertheless, just try and keep it safe for yourself and others... ;)

At the risk of getting kind of off topic, man have I always wanted an RX7! Especially the series 6 & 7. If there has ever been a better looking car made for under $100k (all due respect to FTO's), I have yet to see it. Turbo rotary. Mmmmmmmm.

Good to see people are semi supportive of my peformance and YES i do realise the driver wasnt too crash hot but still, in stock form his car does low 13's in the 1/4 mile!!
And no Mikey he WAS trying his best because i could hear his engine going ballistic. I reckon it was his take off, he got too much wheel spin , and i got only a minimal amount.
Yes, i do love that car! and my gf!

One of my friend had a series 6 RX7, some of the Vic members had met him already (the passenger of the Black MR2 turbo). He only had the air-filter & exhaust done, but its dyno with 190rwkw 8O

So my point is, well done for having a go with this guy, & you had made us proud with your great effort. But with a good driver, RX7 would eats FTO for breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Of course unless you happen 2 have a "hair dryer" in your FTO too
