RPW extractors, good bang for buck?

Post by Black_FTOGPX »

Hi Guy’s

For for those with RPW extractors, is this a good bang your buck?

I hear these will improve low end torque (Which I believe the FTO lacks a lot)

Can you actually feel the gain in torque? (Or is it one of those, Yeah I think it made a difference type mods?)

Just asking cause of got some spare dosh this month and want to spend it on my car. (Instead of wasting it on crap)

:D

it won't be crap if you waste it on me Joel, hehehe... ;)

Eric has one fitted on his GPvR (MADFTO) and yeah she certainly has more giddy-up on the low end... depends on which RPW extractor you're after as well, coz I believe the one fitted on Eric's car is street spec, whereas RPW also has a race-spec extractor... 8)

How much do you think to get them fitted?

from memory Dave from RPW quoted me $580 for the street-spec as is (plus freight). I think Eric had his extractors HPC coated as well so it'd be more expensive altogether.

They look easy enough to be fitted yourself, so with a bit of elbow grease it shouldn't take up more than 2-3 hours or so (would really help if you have a hydraulic hoist hehehe) Otherwise any exhaust shop can fit it for you, just get some quotes...

When i spoke to RPW they said the Race spec is one off only. I still yet 2 convince that it is a worth while mod for its price.

Cause according to RPW you still need those breathing mod & FPR inorder to work it properly. And with some of the figures i've seen you can't really tell if its the extractor increased the performance or the breathing/FPR mod alone would achieve the same result.

What's the difference between the steet spec ones and the race spec ones?

I didn't see anything about the two types on their website...

i would assume the piping diameter on the race-spec extractors would be slightly bigger than the street spec with a tuned length for better mid-top end response?

maybe you should ask Eric (MADFTO) for the differences it made on the dyno?

The more I think about these, the more I realise that they are actually a really good deal.

1.Unique auto sports are selling their replacement flex pipe for $595. (YOU GET ONE OF THESE IN THE RPW EXTRACTOR KIT.)

So even if the actual extractors don’t do all that much, you will at least get a gain from the flex pipe. (And buy looking at the design of them both they look nearly the same)

So basically you are getting two mods for the price of one. (That sounds like a good deal)

I haven't really had a good run on the dyno for comparisions.

Made too many changes between dynos.

But there is a noticable difference in torque (good difference) throughtout the mid range.

I'm getting the car dyno tuned on monday so I might see what the final difference will be.

I've also changed fuels as well, but I'm happy with the extractors, there is a difference there, even if I can't quantify it properly with dyno sheets =P

The simpliest explanation i've got for u is, put your head under the hood, & u c 3 pipes running at the front bottom of the engine, which some ppl call them "bunch of bananas"

Or just go 2 RPW website

I agree with Eric that a noticable difference in torque throughtout the mid range.

Kev I can send you my old dyno graphs with/without the extractors if you are interested. I didn't need FPR for my.

Oh yeah has anyone heard from RPW regarding the turbo kit and the 6A13 mivec hybrid?

No. I believe that the extractors on the fto are pretty good out of the factory, and that you wont see the kind of performance increase as you would if it was a commodore or something equally dodgy. However, everything can be improved on...
