my baby maybe gornnnnnnne
Well its the 13th and I know its lucky for some but tonight I got booted up the rear so hard that I think my chances of a repair are slight! I was stopped to turn right when a "FORD FALCON" on glazed over mode rammed into my back end.. Geez us what a mess it made of my car!! They are insured with AAMI (who underwrite Just Cars) and I dont see how they will fund bring in parts from overseas. The thing that worries me the most is that the console of the car with the clock and amp meter popped out of the dash, so I'm concerned about sub frame damage! Do I want it repaired?? Also if it is written off do I want to buy it back at auction and sell the very good front end??
I want to cry at the moment I Love That Car!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ps: am going to the smash repairs tomorrow and will take photos of the damage.... sh*t my neck has started to stiffen up now - going for a hot bath and some dencorub... Take care all

Thanks Guys, yeah like you I kinda hope they do write it off. I always worry about the road worthyness of the car after a crash. Ah yeah Silentbob it would be fun looking for another one now that I know a lot more about them!!! I'm going around to the panel beaters today to take some photos so stay tuned. Still debating whether to go to the quacks about my neck - dont really want to go around in one of those stupid neck braces. I'm just so thankful the kids werent in the back of the car, which they nearly were except my eldest had a headache and decided to stay home with the younger one.
Am I the first to check out Famous Car Insurance claim policy? Even though I wasnt at fault I'm still claiming through them as I have all the details of the other driver and a police report.
I'll keep you posted.

im going through a claim famous classic at the moment for a not-at-fault claim, although my rear ender was not as dramatic as yours.
so far they have been very hassle free, they let you choose the repairer and the inspector rang me promptly to book a date.
as someone whos written off an fto and bought another one, i can tell you that you wont regret it
i got paid out handsomely for my first fto luckily... it was a 96 but rego papers said 97 so insured as a 97.. but yeah i reckon youre better off with a new fto, dont you dare think about getting another car!

Hi guys,
Just out of curiosity, how much is everyone paying for their insurance?
I know there has been an enormouse forum on this, but I'm asking the people that have posted in this forum alone...
Just curious....and how much your car is insured for as well....
Thanks,
And yes hope for the best and a write off would be the best way to go.
Good luck guys....May the fto force be with you all...

A bath and dencorub won't do it. Get ye to a physio as soon as possible. Inform your insurer and ask what they can do.kazbah wrote:I want to cry at the moment I Love That Car!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I stupidly neglected to get proper attention after a rear-ender 10 years ago. My neck gradually got stiffer and worse over 12 months, and it took a heap more physio to sort it than if I'd just gone right away.
...So look after yerself, and let the insurers worry about the car! Just stay in touch with them, get An Actual Person's name and direct number there to liaise with throughout the process, and they should be able to do what you need them to.

Thanks for all your advise and concern. RichardH you will be glad to know I'm off to the docs this afternoon. My neck has caused me to feel a bit light headed and sickey so I think I'd better get it checked out. FTO12345 I'm paying $850 for my insurance and because of my age and driving record (basically mature and clean in that order) they reduced the excess to $500 instead of $1000 except in the case of theft which will attract the full excess.
I rang Famous today and also spoke to the smash repairer and Famous were very helpful and the repairer has delt with them a couple of times and he said they were ok. I will certainlly push for a new car and the smash repairer seems to think Famous let you keep the salvage which would be worth quite a bit cos there is nothing wrong with the front end, so motor, lights, panel etc are perfect.
Stephen, a couple of things.... Have you ever heard of the panel in the dash that has the clock and amp meter popping during a crash. Mine popped and my concern is it means subframe damage. Also if I email you a couple of photos could you please host them for me?? Take a close look at the crease in the underside of the car....
Will keep you posted about the claim....

as it is rubber it's quite possible that flex in the chasis will cause this... whether or not the chasis has moved to a new position couldn't tell without an inspection...kazbah wrote: Stephen, a couple of things.... kazbah,
Catherine and I are sorry to hear of your accident, us also being of the mature age its a nuisance when these things happen.
It is blessing that there were no serious injuries, those neck jolts can be a worry though.
Had someone run into the back of my BM recently and there insurance paid for everything, I did not have to do anyting, we hope yours works out the same.
That panel that popped out is held in with clips at the top and two screws at the bottom, for it to come out (unless the bottom screws were not fitted) it must have been a fair thump.
Hopefully they will write it off, all depends on the insurance value my FTO's an agreed $22650 so would have to be a lot of damage to write it off.
You could make a bit of money if you could buy it back (if they write it off) front end parts are hard to get and you should have no trouble getting rid of most of the bits.

Karen I'm sorry to hear about that, hope your no hurt bad... I am glad to hear that you are doing the most important thing which is going to see your doc make sure you tell him everything that hurts no matter how small..
When I had my accident years ago (passenger) I ended up in hospital and when they released me I went and saw my doctor but did not mention the very slight lower back pain I was feeling and as the weeks went by it got worse. This caused some problems when I took the other insurance co to court as they claimed that I didn't complain about lower back pain till much later. I was lucky and won the case and got my compo and bought an FTO Wha Hoo!!!
So even though I thought that my lower back pain was not worth mentioning at first it definately was, as I now have a permenant lower back problems and will for probably the rest of my life.
So make sure you tell your doc EVERYTHING!!!
I too hope you get a new FTO cos I dont trust cars that have been in accidents and fixed.

Well all the good advice about the docs paid off. I'm now off work for at least a week (depending upon how the injury responds) The doc is starting acupuncture and physio next week, and I have made a claim against her green slip insurers. The doc had noted on the claim form that treatment could last longer than 12 weeks, she is hoping that by acting on it early it may save any permanent injury - heres hoping. Anyway the worst is still to come - seemingly the ache get worse over the next few days and by Monday I should be in a right state LOOKING SOOOO FORWARD TO THAT
I'm just so thankful the kids werent in the car with me.......
Dont worry everyone I'll push for a write off and hopefully be able to get the car as well.... I'll be sure to sell it off on this site. I've emailed Stephen a couple of photos and the one of the subframe is very interesting cos you can see a definate crease in it.
As before I'll keep you all posted on how I go. And dont worry if it is written off I'll be looking for a replacement FTO nothing else!!!

Hi everyone, just a quick update on how things are going with my car. The insurance company took a week to send an assessor so it was only looked at yesterday. Its a repair job - sorry to all you guys who were hoping for some parts! It's going to take some time though cos they have to get all the parts from Japan - looking at about 4-6 weeks for parts (must be boating them in not airmail!) And there is a beautiful FTO for sale by YFT-08U on the site! Oh well at least I know my car actually goes well, its always a bit of a risk buying a second hand car, especially a high performance one cos you dont know if the other owners have thrashed the guts out of it and they are selling because of problems with the car!
Thanks for all your messages of support. Will be getting a shitebox courtesy car from the panel beaters no doubt - How Embarressment!
