Security on your car?

Okay, well the story is, I go to work all day every saturday & sunday and park my car in the same spot each time. I do this as It's inbetween wall and a pole so no one can trolley / door my car.

Anyway, my mate parked next to my car & my GF was parked on the other side of his car, he drives a VL commodore...

Anyway, i saw his car drive out of the carpark reasonably quick today at around 530, I thought he was just leaving early as he normally leaves with me @ 7 on a sunday, anyway it quickly sped out (but he drives like that too) and drove off. I didn't see him untill 7 o'clock when we were leaving out the door, and we walk up to the cars. He turns to me and says dude where the f**k is my car? ... It was stolen, in a Coles Carpark.. Seriously? I work trolleys & walk past our cars every 5minutes. I just can't believe how it happened..

He had no alarm/immob, My car has an immobilizer & so does my gf's barina, and you could see the light so I'm guessing thats what turned them off, but I can see a smudge on my CLEAN windows where it looks like they've tried to put something down the side of my window (not sure if they did, no damage was done just left a smudge on the window).

I understand that VL's are one of the easiest cars to steal, but I just could not believe how it was done without anyone noticing, especially me.
A few months ago I have another mate I work with that owns a V8 VL (mint conidition mind you ) and his window sills were stolen and at the same time my mates magna's clip-on style sideskirts where stolen. Both times my car has been in the same carpark and not touched. I'm starting to freak out and think that next time it's gonna be my car

I have a feeling they would have walked up to my car, had a look and seen that it's got an immobilizer & same with my mates Brand new bmw 125, and my GF's barina. And just moved on to the easist target, the VL... Do you guys agree? Would you be frightened of a immobilizer if you were a thief?

I'm very grateful that my car wasn't stolen or damaged in anyway, thank god I would have been so pissed!

Anyway, I have a few questions,

1 - If, they happen to get my car open, how hard would it be start? Even though I have an immobilizer (not a 3point or anything I think it's just basic) ?
2 - What's the deal with getting a pager? Does it send a message to your phone or something? (anyone with any info please share).

pager will send a sms when ever a alarm is set off on your car
i used to have a 2way alarm but it would only work in like 1 or 2 km used to beep and vibrate
shame bout your mates car has it turned up yet
im pretty sure you can disable and bypass the imobiliser but while doing this the alarm would be going off its head
best way would be to break in pop the bonnet disconect the battery and that will stop the alarm unless you have one with a back up battery

Nah, just stalls.

And it shouldn't get turned off accidentally, got one of them 'missle arming' style switch covers over it.

Seriously though, I need to get a new alarm put in mine asap. I'd like one to do windows & mirrors & possibly boot release. Has to be able to work with the turbo timer too. Any recommendations?

but... when i went on a cruise to natio... one of my mates skyline his immobiliser wouldnt turn off so he couldnt get his car started so these guys we met plugged in their "by pass relays" and they completely disabled the immobiliser and got the car started just by plugging in the relays.

so i guess.. if someone whats your car then they'll get your car.

if i was a theif i would look for switches and id flick switches on the dash there really is nowhere to hide one without it bein a pain in the bum. id check under seats, glovebox, centre console any "foglight" switches, behind trims near the pedals.

itll slow em down for 5 mins.

the only way to go is an alarm with proximity detection that warns when the theif is close, pressure switches on boot, bonnet, and every door. and have that alarm wired up to a backup battery in the boot inside a subbox. plus pager.

The problem with alarms though is every body is used to them going off. Thieves now just act like it is their car.

Thats why pager alarm is the only way to go. 5 minutes is more than enough time for me to get back to my car, except when it is in my garage.

how will they b able to turn it off if the backup battery is inside a subbox?
