NEED more PoWeR! looking at piggyback ecu, other mods done
hey, want more power from my fto and the next solution is a piggyback ecu i think, ive got the exhaust note how i want it and the induction roar also.
induction is smooth bend elbows with aliminium large diamater(same as throttle body) pipe aqnd a good quality pod filter(not sure of the brand) with a heat sheild on it and the original air induction from infront of the left wheel? and also a pipe i rigged up that goes from the very bottom of the veilside bumper right up to the pod filter.
exhaust is all stock 2 and a quarter untill just over the back axle where it goes to 3 inch piping wiht 1 mandrel bend into a 3 inch high flow muffler then another mandrel bend into a large dual exhaust tip
iridium spark plugs, synthetic oil and good condition engine (have driven 3 other fto's and they all hads less power)
soooo...... want a piggyback and some1 in melb that can tune it,
what are the better brands? im not a perfectionist?
who can tune?
how much am i looking at all up?
thanx in advance
Brenton

Re: NEED more PoWeR! looking at piggyback ecu, other mods do
Piggyback of choice seems to be the haltech interceptor
gains seem to be around 15kw atw and maybe more
For the halltech and tune I would think about $1200 all up but check with aza or dstocks as they would know more.

You would have to make sure its the right one as im not sure if there are different ones or not - so find out the model and write haltech an email. I have an interceptor on my FTO and got 12KW atw. Aza got 17kw atw on his, so it will vary a bit depending on mods. When I bought mine, it cost $600 for the unit and about the same again to fit and tune. Azas was about the same.

Re: NEED more PoWeR! looking at piggyback ecu, other mods do
i had extractors but they were poorly designed and i dont wanna waste any more money going down that route
http://ftoaustralia.com/v3/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=20989
thats a link to another thread detailing how i wasted $1200 on an exhaust system then chucked the original back on
what sort of power gains could i expect still? with the mods i have? and a piggyback, also will it let me reset the rev limiter? (i know i wont acheive more power this was with the mods i have done but itd be nice to get it upto 9k:)

Try selling it back off again lol.
Dont rev your car to 9k, its already revving its tits off at 8. :O
Well if u have your intake down and your exhaust half done, do your exhaust!
Then piggyback.

You dont even need to do extractors yet, just get 2.5" Y Pipes, 2.5 tubing into a highflo cat, 2.5 tubing into a long resonator, the two bend parts then into a short resonator, over axle 2.5" then into your 3" muffler.

hmmmmm, the extractors are disgined well but the rest of the system isnt, maybe it wouldent cost much to have it made up with some of the original parts. may get a quote, anyone know anyone good in melb?

I don't think the extractors are too bad a design they seem to turn right before they merge. Although its a sharp turn... they still look alright.
If you did the test with a 100kg passenger on board after you got them fitted it'll be a bit slower...

Re: NEED more PoWeR! looking at piggyback ecu, other mods do
i had them on and the whole systrem ...... ( its suposedly the y pipe according to bennoz thats the prob, but also the 3 inch piping) even with no1 in it it was noticable slower aka 10% minimum a whole second slower to 100kmph i understand that upgrading your exhaust will yeild more power(kw/hp) than tourque but not it shouldent run slower, i didnt wanna spend more money on that system unless i was sure it would make it better.
maybe i could do a home job and fix the y pipe? i supose i did adapt a 2.25 inch pipe to a 3 inch and gopt all the mesurements right, took about 3 hours probably sounds like a long time but not really
thoughts?

True,
Even still mate,
If i was you i would be getting a full new system from the extractors, get it made by a reputable zorst shop so it's done properly.
Then after that you can get your ECU so it's tuned to those mods.

Re: NEED more PoWeR! looking at piggyback ecu, other mods do
hmm i dont have 1700 to shell out aon somthing ive already wasted 1200 on so if i did go that route i would adapt the original myself
.... thinking about it, but if i change that y pipe will i get more power after a tune........ i mean the rear still gioes to a 3" so theres not much i can salvage
maybe start a new exhaust after the extractors

Reason he says this brent, is if you do any modification in the future, you'll have to retune. Which is why it should be the absolute last thing you do.bushido wrote:maybe get extractors first?
