Smartphone app for the forums

Post by koolio1234 »

There's an app for smartphone devices called tapatalk (http://www.tapatalk.com/). Works on iphones, google android phoness, blackberry and nokia.

This app allows you to browse any forum natively on your smartphone so you don't have to wait for the browser to load the forums gigantic interface. Instead it seems to load the basic elements and gives you nice interface to fit the smaller resolutions of your mobile. Also loads the content shitloads quicker (biggest advantage IMO).

Its for forums that use phpBB as well as a few other supported types like vBulletin. Apparently its easy to setup, requires the forum admin (when you have some free time Bennoz) to install the tapatalk plugin (instructions on their website) to enable the app to access the forum.

Whats everyone think?

I personally don't like these type of programs, I prefer the traditional way so I get the full-forum experience.

I'm currently working on the new FTO Australia theme as we speak, so far it loads fast for the iPhone and I don't see a need for it to load any faster :)

3gs? My 3g takes a while, mind you... It wouldn't hurt anyone to put this on? If you don't wanna use it, don't get the app.

Which is why a interface specifically designed to run on a small screen would be handy. I use opera mini and it does an ok job at loading most pages quick enough but the scrolling and selecting tiny links from a small res screen gets tiring.

I don't see why we can't have it on? If you don't wanna use it then just don't use the app. Use safari.

What is it with iPhone users assuming that everyone else is a sheep too? Damn herd mentality.

i think the reasoning why it wasnt followed up further was the fact that it loaded ok anyway, especially on opera mini.
and also you are right, not many ppl had smart phones then i guess.

btw stef, you know how tempting it is to change your post? lol
