It was bloody freezing at Wakefield this morning
But a perfect day for racing, albeit the track was very cold and we had a lot of trouble getting any temperature in the rear tyres.
Qualifying got off to a bad start with a spin into the fishhook turn 8. I wasn't expecting to have no grip in the rear and it just caught me out coming down off the hill
For the next half a dozen laps the rear was very loose so I drove conservatively but still managed a 1:13.9 on the last lap which put me 16th on the grid for race 1 (of 25 cars).
We checked the wheel alignment after qualy and all was OK so put this down to tyre temps.
Race 1 I nearly spun again trying to warn the tyres straight out of pit lane!
No grip in the rear again! So got swamped on the first couple of laps unable to keep slower cars behind me due to the rear grip. Finally by the last couple of laps the rear grip was coming good and I managed a 1:13.4 on the very last lap
Race 2 we fitted the rear strut bar to compare the handling. It appeared to improve the handling in the rear staight away, but this could also have been more heat in the track by this stage in the afternoon. So I was able to have a decent crack at it this race and had several battles working my way back up the grid. On the last lap I was right up behind a white clubman that I'd been battling with for a few laps (he was faster on the straight but I was faster up the back and through the corners), but I was loosing brake pedal, and into the fishhook he spun in front of me, and not having enough brake pedal I spun trying to avoid him
Still managed a 1:13.5 again though
We'll try higher pressures in the rear tomorrow to see if this helps. I'm hoping to be in the 1:12's by the end of the weekend
Thanks aza for all your help today! I hope I was entertaining
