Test and tune at Winton- times and video links
Took my FTO GPX to Winton on the 23rd of July and had a pretty excelent time besides some overheating problems maybe due to there being no heat sheild on the exhaust manifold.
Kept up with a 261kw $220,000 Porsche Carrera S for 2 laps but i think the driver was being carfull or somthing
Passed a 1989-1994 Ford Falcon xr8 with at least a mild cam, extractors and a rollbar (car was just a track car)
The road tyres are a bastard to keep on the road when your pushing it but it was my first time on a track and in some of the laps im shifting early to keep the revs/heat down so dont be to critical on any comments lol
best times was 2 mins flat:( which isnt very good i dont think but between lettting some cars past, amber lights and engine overheating i didt get 1 clean lap where i was pushing the car to its limits for the whole day but i came close

For your first time out great job
Maybe drop your tyre psi down a bit next time too.
It looks a fun little track. After seeing the footage I want to have a run lol.

yeah thanx its fairly small which is good, yeah maybe, would be more worried about keeping the engine cool. out on the open road i can floor it for half a minuit and it stays just under half like all fto's its just on the track where it climbed and actually was on the h....... probably shouldent have pushed it that hard but i wanted to stay with the porsche lol

Always wanted to go on a racetrack, but there's no way I'd take my daily drive or a FWD lol

Yeah get out there and have some fun. You only have to go as fast and hard as you feel comfortable. The FTO is quite a fun car on a race track

The video itself shows the amount of under-steer, unfortunately in a racetrack environment it's much better to have a RWD/AWD (no explanation needed)aza013 wrote:and why not? it's not as bad as you think.-Nighthawk- wrote:Always wanted to go on a racetrack, but there's no way I'd take my daily drive or a FWD lol

Ummm first time on the track for him so don't use it as a eg. lol He was out having fun and seeing what the limits are for his car.-Nighthawk- wrote:The video itself shows the amount of under-steer, unfortunately in a racetrack environment it's much better to have a RWD/AWD (no explanation needed)aza013 wrote:and why not? it's not as bad as you think.-Nighthawk- wrote:Always wanted to go on a racetrack, but there's no way I'd take my daily drive or a FWD lol
just have a look at some of Shane's, Ben's and my footage and you will see that a FWD car CAN hold there own on the track.
one of my ones and will post up ones of Shane and Ben as soon as I find them lol.

Re: Test and tune at Winton- times and video links
also i had cheap stock tyres That came with the car when i brought it ($120) each i think, stock brakes, overheating issue, no camber adjustments etc......... if i adressed all those factors it would make all the difference
fwd isnt a hinderence it just means u sometimes have to take a different racing line, the fto even when set up for the road wont understeer much if you have the right corner entry speed and you can suprisingly ussualy hit the power fairly early on the exit of a corner with little understeer

Re: Test and tune at Winton- times and video links
yeah they are great around tracks untill you get too much power but anything under 150fwkw would be fine.
besides the power modifications what handling mods have ya done? strut brace? brakes? semi slicks? camber? weight reduction? suspension? etc etc

Re: Test and tune at Winton- times and video links
strut brace? yep factory VR.
brakes? yep sloted and vented with EBC Blue stuff pads.
semi slicks? Federal 595 RSR's front and RS on the back.
camber? only factory settings.
weight reduction? yes about 40kg's lighter.
suspension? factory only.

Sorry mate but that comment = complete fail.-Nighthawk- wrote:The video itself shows the amount of under-steer, unfortunately in a racetrack environment it's much better to have a RWD/AWD (no explanation needed)
Also shows your ignorance to motorsport. Yes FWD cars do have a tendency to understeer, just as RWD cars have a tendency to oversteer. That said the FTO is actually quite well balanced and if setup right tends to oversteer more than it does understeer, unless of course you over drive it (but this applies to any car).
Some of the outright fastest cars in state and club level motorsport in Australia are FWD cars. Check out the following vid. This is a 300+fwhp turbo Toyota Starlet with a lock diff!

PS: Also helps to have a maniac as a driver lol!
