Rooted or Standard?

Just got home from test driving a GPX 95 Tiptronic and it was a slug, it changed gears at like 2,000RPM and had valve clatter and struggled up hills...

is this standard or is this car @#$%ed

i know onthing about FTO engines just i want the GPX

Not that im an authority yet but i can help ya out on the gear changes!
The mivec engine in the gpx "learns" how u drive, i assume u were driving round without changin the gears urself, if it was changin gears at about 2000 revs its because the previous owner drove it like that, try driving it in tiptronic mode and changin gears urself, u'll get a better idea of how she handels then, plus u can c if it has any problems at higher revs!!

Just for a heads up 2, u can clear the settings in the ecu by disconnectin the battery for about 15-20 mins

yeah i thought that might be the case, but we came up to a hill and knocked it into tiptronic and it struggled up a hill in 2nd that i rip up in 3rd in my skyline (non turbo).

it also had a lot of valve clatter...is that normal?

i just found a manual so that will take 1st place and this tiptronic will be on the backburner, but please tell me whether its a rooted engine or what coz it was an awesome deal...well so i think (15800 for a GPX with 68,000kms, stock as a rock)

the FTO is a slug down low, but which skyline you comparing it to? Manual or Auto?

I would highly recommend a manual, the difference between the two speed wise is pretty big imo.

Well considering the GPX has adjustable lifters, they probably need an adjustment, or just an oil change.

Lifter noise is very common is FTO's, or mitsubishis in general.

In the short time i have had my tiptronic for i have found that my auto gear changes tended to be around 2000 rpm until i fed it a bit on the take off, i dont mean pushing the acc thru the firewall, but i find all i need is to give it the slightest bit more of a push to get the gear changes up around the 3000 mark and it also seems to change a lot smoother.
As far as the hills go, im not having any probs with them in auto or manual modes, car just glides up and over :D

my veilside keeps on scrapping and its cracked in tooo many places

ill push for a manual, then worry about tiptronic.

i am comparing to a manual skyline.

if your use to driving high performance/big capacity cars, the FTO does feel sluggish.

The fto has a peaky power curve, you have to push it to extract the power, you gotta think its only 2000CC's.
