Rev meter not working, ear shifting...

Just bought my FTO. But the seller told me: rev meter died...

It's kind of strange to floor the pedal without knowing when to shift. Should I just learn to shift with my ears? :?

What will be the most possible cause of this problem?
How much will it cost to fix it?

Thanks!

For now, yes. Just don't play music and you'll be fine. I never look at the rev meter unless I have music up loud, you will learn your engine :P

As a matter of fact, mine is AT, so daily ear-shift is automatically done by FTO itself.

Only worried about it when I need some extra fun.

Conclusion: "Shift indicator"( I don't know if it's called this name) like the one on civic type R can replace the basic function of rev meter on a AT version car.

After searching the forum, I decide to replace the ignition failure sensor, hope it can revive the rev.

It should fix the problem for you. Thats generally the culprit.

I had that issue on mine, it seems that part of the loom is fouled by the hood release mechanism. I pulled my entire dash apart and ended up moving things about a bit and it's fine now. Re-insulate stuff too.

Search here for "fto recall" I think, someone put a link to a site detailing all recalls the FTO has had and that is one of them.

Ignition Failure Sensor is probably the easiest thing to rule out first. Should only cost about $70 delivered and is a 1/2 hour job at most to replace.

Failing that, time to start investigating things such as that mentioned by FTEvolution, but I would definitely start with the easiest stuff first. I've replaced the IFS on both my FTOs and it fixed the problem both times.
