dense smoke from gearbox sensor - shortcircuit

so i was fiddling with my gf's FTO and there is this sensor on top of the gearbox and it was unplugged. Its plug lay right next to it. As soon as i plugged it in, the socket almost melted down. i guess now i know it wasnt plugged in for a reason. I'll take pics to show you which sensor it is... any ideas?

is it tip or manual?
was anything not working berfore you noticed it unplugged like reverse lights or speedo?

reverse lights and a couple of brake aint working. But even if the reverse switch was stuck why should it short out so badly?

mystery solved!! it was the reverse sensor shorting out! some intelligent japanese engineer didnt put a fuse on the reverse wiring
