importing cars

Hey guys, im planning to import a car to sydney, but just wondering has anyone ever did it before? tradecarview.com is one that a friend of mine has recently imported a rx7 from. just want to know some more info/suggestion from u guys, thanks

I imported my FTO and got it complied. What sort of questions do you have.....

Well I guess the obvious is make sure its on the SEVS register first and you can avoid a headache (that said u may experience one anyway

). The car cannot be in auction grades A, A0, 0, R, RA, R1 or 1 as these are damaged or previously damaged but repaired and the government don't like that and neither would you I don't think. As far as I'm aware of, from here you can import the car yourself. I think you can submit the necessary paperwork yourself to get import approval and when it lands, just get a RAW to comply it or you get a RAW onboard from the get go and get them to submit the paperwork on your behalf...a lot of the red tape is in the administration side of things...oh and you have to make sure is de-registered in Japan otherwise one of those headaches I was talking about might pop up too...doing it the way you want to can save you a few $$$$. good luck

im just wondering like, i have to buy the car, then find a transport company? an the company does all the paper work? so when it lands in sydney i just take it to rta an rego it thats all? Pretty much what ar the steps for it.

in its simplest form:

1. obtain all necessary import papers from DOTARS (make sure you don't get the 'Personal Import' documents as that is a totally different thing and a bigger headache)
2. find car
3. find a RAW that can comply the type of car (also notify them - as i said earlier, getting them onboard at the beginning is easier than finding one when the car arrives)
4. pay for car (de-registration, dealer fees, removal of gases and liquids, storage)
5. fill out all necessary import papers with car details
6. obtain import approval from DOTARS
7. ship the car (dealers on tradecarview often work with shipping companies so they can factor that into the costs)
8. await customs clearance (pay customs taxes - import duty and what not)
9. tow vehicle to RAW (include all import paperwork)
10. RAW complies (approx 7-14 days for compliance plate)
11. unregistered permit to drive car to get your pink slip
12. register the car

if i have missed anything, someone fill in. understand that this way you want to do it means that you do most of the paperwork and all the money deposits and transfers.
on the reverse if you use a company like Fat Frog Imports or Prestige Imports then they do the paperwork and you just hand over the money when they request it

not exactly...tradecarview is just like tradingpost..companies just list on there to get exposure so you get in contact with the company selling the car..they will usually be happy to handle everything in Japan including shipping to Australia and that is all, the rest is up to you.

If you use companies like the ones I listed, usually they only deal with auction cars as they have personnel in Japan who attend the auctions so I'm not sure if they will help you out with a car on tradecarview...I guess you can ask

I have recently imported mine from NZ although under different circumstances as it is a ersonal import however prinicple is the same

buy car
get the appropriate paperwork from DOTARS
get it shipped

I used a company called cargo online, very easy and good to deal with they have taken care of absolutly everything incl transporting from NZ to my house here and all customs involvment etc like quarentine, steam cleaning valuations etc

all I had to do was email them appropriate forms and pay them as each stage was completed very easy

from there its just getting it complied in your appropriate state
