HELP with broken auto gear shift dust cover

Post by jeremywe »

Hi all,

I was trying to get access to my head unit yesterday, and accidentally cracked the dust cover for my auto gear shift dust cover. You know the flexible soft black plastic piece that sits around the gear stick.

Now, what are my alternatives?

Is there a sleeve available to cover up the whole thing like what the manual gear shift has for the FTO auto gear shifts?

Or can i get a replacement for the piece of plastic dust cover that i broke. I noticed that for the fto, having a tip shifter on the left, its different from any ordinary auto dust cover.

Has anyone got any idea how much it cost if i want to get the original dust cover from misubishi, and how to install them?

Thanks a million.

a) wreckers
b) spare part from Mitsubishi
c) some people have used manual covers / boots, but you won't be able to see where everything is
d) someone was making a metal replacement, have a look in the styling section

Hi scracy,

OMFG!!! $147???

Actually, i've just seen my friend's fto, and the previous owner did quite an inovative thing.

He replaced that black plastic dust cover, and replaced it with clear ones(cut it out himself). Below that, there are neons which alluminates the clear plastic, and boy, it looks really neat.

Anyway, Did you replace that black plastic yourself? If so, could you give some pointers on how to go about doing it?

Thanks!

i got mine from a wreckers for something like $50 i think, but i had to get the whole cover not just the dust cover thingie...

to get it off wedge the button off, i actually used a metal chopstick 8O

and then you need a socket wrench to get the knob off and the cover should come off easily from that point...

i hope my memory served me right...
