URGENT! Alarm Will Not Turn Off

Post by Nacho »

Just did a service on the car and had to unplug the battery to get to the fuel filter. When I plugged the car back in the alarm will not turn off even when I tried the button my both sets of my keys. I can smell an electrical burning smell in the car. WTF? Nothing is earthing and the car is turning over even with the alarm on.

My key for the alarm will not work!

Have you got the code for the alarm..? Some alarms will get you to turn the key in the ignition in a sequence to reset it... Then you can re-program your fob...
I just had to add it ......

Sorry mate no code. Don't know anything about the alarm and I've had it for 8 years and never really used it.

I've checked handbook and can't find a fuse for the alarm either to just kill the circuit. I'm happy to just drive around without the bitch coz I think the immobiliser will still work wtihout it.

I don't wanna just snip the speaker and drive around in case there is a short of some sort sapping my battery. I don't know what's causing in as I didn't disconnect any sensors and didn't pin any wires against the firewal when I put the fuel pump bracket back in.

More news....the last knob who worked on the car didn't put the bracket in properly so when I first popped the bonnet I noticed the battery was shorting on the bracket. This would have only been for about 5-10 mins from when I came to a stop in my driveway.

Any guesses to what may have fried during this time? The electrical burnt smell is coming from inside the car BTW.

sh*t man could be anything. I would probably say its more likely to be something aftermarket than OEM though. Just go through and check every fuse and go through all you instrumentation and switchs etc and check every thing is alright.

All good guys....I don't usually post easy to answer threads in here. He he he

I did a bit of tinkering yesterday and checked every fuse and tried pulling out fuses and connecting the battery and still no go. I also tried connecting the battery with the door locked and unlocked.

I was just talking to a mate who used to be an auto elec and he suggested locking and unlocking the doors while the battery is connected to hopefully trigger some solenoid. I'll give it a try tonight.

But I'm glad the car starts fine which was my main concern. ;)

For future reference on anyone who has the same issue. The shorted battery fried the alram control module. Too expensive to replace/repair so ripped the whole alarm system out. :P
