it could just be the transmission computer... check the fuse,,, when transmission computer fails.... the transmission usually defaults to 3rd gear it is like this in all cars... as 3rd gear is the to take to the shop with out wearing the clutches in the transmission.

Um.....

NO, this defaulting you describe is limp mode.

limp mode, common problem... start with an ECU reset (disconnect the battery)

if this fails try searching for ECU error codes, then get back to us.

oh it never happened to me.... I have my FTO now for years.....

I know my cousin car had the same issue.. he changed transmission.... oil.... transmission ecu.... 3 days of work just to find out was the fuse...
but it was not an FTO lol.....

I had a maxima few years ago same problem, a whole week of labor just to find out was the transmission computer died..... but again was not an FTO..

so that why i suggested that.....

Start with the error codes as reseting the ECU only strips out the codes and resets the engine ECU to the factory settings. Then you have to run it and wait until it happens agin before you can get the diagnosis you need.

Listen to all this guys like storm.
mate my Fto kept on doing it so what i did!!!!
ECU tells me the input and output sensors, so what i did.
THE DODGY oh yeh...
loosen my output sensors ( note speedo and Km aint gonna work)
and bought new sensors from Camskill.
up to now im too lazy to install it so im relying on GPS to give my speed reading.
ill do it one day.
how good is the one wire trick to get the ECU reading!!!
