Roadworks On Bruce Highway-QLD

Post by fto13-marty »

Hey just wanting to see what everyone thinks of all the upgrading going on the Bruce Highway north of North Lakes. I drive this route 3-4 times a day and have started to notice how unsafe the roadworks are. In the past Two days I have witnessed 2 separate serious accidents caused by roadworks. First one was a roadwork ute hit from behind by a hatchback, resulting in hatchback becoming convertible, front end in the boot and every single piece of metal becoming 20x smaller then it originaly was. The second was a Three car pile up closing the Highway for 30minutes. All cars were complete write offs. This should have been averted by only blocking one lane instead of two, and blocking the lanes for a maximum of 1km not the 14km blocked currently at night. Also there are no signs displayed at night confirming which lanes are blocked. And there are never any workers there anyway. These roadworks have been underway for the last 8 months with what looks like no improvement what so ever.

write to your local council.

if at anytime you drive the route and feel unsafe, phone your local police not 000

Personally i know what is going on with this roadworks but if a person dives through here for the first time, or a learner, or an elder driver i think this will happen again, i dare say that after two crashes in the exact same spot in two days that the council will plan a change, no doubt costing taxpayers money and taking four months to put into action.

yeah mate i know wht you mean, i drive through there once a while, so i dont know the area, but i've never seen any road WORKS, not to be a smart arse, but I've never seen workers working there.

on top of that, the lanes are not marked off properly and there's no directions, when i have to go through there i just stick to the left and go at about 60 and hope for the best.

/end rant

Agreed, I go up to Burpengary to visit family every now and agian, it's quite insane how much progress, or lack thereof, has occurred and how poorly it's been set up.

The area is controlled by Moreton Bay Regional Council http://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/

Having a quick scout around, it looks as though a traffic officer was killed there the other day also.

Lot of the projects don't look like being complete in the near future: http://www.mainroads.qld.gov.au/Driving ... egion.aspx

2 hours spend to better mark up the roads etc in the interum wouldn't hurt though.. Emails though always help (in theory). So just send though general 'concerned' emails.
