fog light switch

Post by col2560 »

just changed my non fog light parkers for ones with fogs, but they don't work. the switch clicks in and out, might it still be a faulty switch?? i checked the fuse and its ok.

Are the pins on the back of the switch burnt and black looking. The switches have a nasty habit of burning out. Check for blackening/melting and have a shot at it with a multimeter

umm, no. but i figure they go through a relay already. i just swapped the wires from the parkers and the fog lights, foglight switch was switching only parkers before. now it switches the fog lights and the parkers are switched with the headlight stalk as normal.

They are not relayed, thats the reason why the switches are burning out. You have way too much current running through the smaller switch.

well, if you pull the switch off and look at the wires in the connection block, there are 6 wires. all i did was pull the 4 outside wires out and swapped them over. from memory, 2 are red and 2 are green, i just swapped the position of the red ones and green ones in the connection block. might be good to dis-connect the battery first so you don't blow fuses.

the wires are locked into the block via the female spade connectors and if you look into the open end of the block you can see there are small plastic fingers that hold the connector ends in place. i used a small precision screwdriver to release the plastic clip and the wire pulls out easily. hard to describe in words, and they are small connectors, so it's a fiddly job.

    good luck with it.
