Minor accident, need a new rear bar for white GPvR

Post by hugekim »

Some bad news... got into a bit of an accident with a friend's car - I pretty much reversed into his Landcruiser's bull bar. :(
Nothing serious, just the rear bar has been dented and the left rear lights casing is cracked (light bulbs are fine)

So question is... where could I source a new rear bar? Are they all the same so would say a GPX one be fine?
I'm not getting insurance involved, and it would be pretty rare for a mechanic to source one locally right?

I'll post up some photos soon, but its just a dented and cracked rear bar.

Thanks in advance

LOL damn are you serious... 21 km's over, that's at least 3 demerit points right?

Yeah when I first got it I got the RWC and everything fixed up, then vicroads wouldn't register it unless I removed some things
(tinted rear lights. exhaust didn't meet emission standards? HID's)

They said I needed to fix all these "problems" or get a certificate from a VACC mechanic.
Was meant to do that at least a month ago but was absolutely swamped with Uni exams and work.

But I finished exams last Friday so I'll be sure to get that VACC certificate and register it in my name

Thanks dstocks, have shot you a PM about the tail lights.

But for the rear bar, I was thinking of possibly:

    "BX Style" rear bar
    http://carmate.com/product_details.php? ... TFTO95BXRB

    "CM Style" rear bar
    http://carmate.com/product_details.php? ... TFTO95CMRB

I dunno... I like the look of those two but have heard some negative things about carmate on these forums.

I remember seeing GR8FTO's car for sale recently, the kit looked pretty nice imo.
Any thoughts on those 2 rear bars?

They won't suit the rest of the car with stock skirts and front bar....

    Just my opinion.

I wouldnt buy from carmate unless you were going to get them to install. GR8FTO had a nightmare of time getting his to fit and IMHO it still doesnt fit perfectly. just my 2cent

yep, i wouldn't be using carmate if i wasn't in sydney. The problem is that if it doesn't fit then you have to pay a 15% re-stocking fee which they ask for + shipping costs, too much hassle if it doesn't work out.

Although, i think the first bar looks awesome. If you are willing to buy it from them, remember that body parts can usually be made to fit even if they are a bit off and the majority of the time your never going to get a part to fit 100% unless its a genuine.

The bar isnt too bad but even if I get it knocked out there's some pretty bad scratches and cracks on a previously perfect bar.

Hmmm seems the general opinion is against car mate.
Has anyone had any experience with somewhere in Victoria? There's a lot of places with body kits/bars etc, just FTO ones seem to be pretty rare to find.
