Recently the battery has been flat everytime I go and start the car, but it usually starts after a few turns of the key. But yesterday morning she wouldnt budge at all. Today we tried jumper leads, we got the battery up to 13.9 volts but still nothing.
Now I got told it could be the starter motor or ythe viper alarm system could have immobilized the car
Does anyone have a clue about whats going on? Its a 94 GPX
if u think its the immobiliser u might be able to call the place that sold it to u n they may be able to refer u to someone who can come out n have a look, but obviously the down side is ul have to pay for it.. :S at the same time i guess u want to make sure its for that reason... do u have a little light that shows u whether the immobiliser is active?
The alarm system came on the car and the car is from Melbourne (im in QLD). There is no light on anywhere in the car but I have never immobilised it to see if one exists. A mechanic is taking a look at it today/tomorrow and checking if its the starter motor, if not I will have to take it to the Auto Electirician here.....
Im checking it all out tomorrow but we are pretty sure its the starter motor and not my alarm system thank god, because the central locking and everything still works and all the dash lights come on.
I don't understand how people get flat batteries and starter issues confused?
The symptoms are so different. If you battery is going flat, you will get a slower crank speed and maybe constant ticking noise from the starter.
If you have a starter issue you prob will hear one tick from from the starter or nothing at all but your engine won't crank.
If the next time your car is not cranking, get under the car and give the starter a quick of taps with a hammer (gentle to medium taps) and it should start.
