Whirring noise (Urgent)

Post by payaya »

Hey all,

Could not have a proper look as it happened on the way to work!!

Started the car in the morning driving fine for 10 minutes then stopped at a set of lights. Took off car started to make a whirring noise. Not a belt squeek type noise but more of a whirring power steering type noise when its screwed. Had nothing to do with the steering as I stopped completely was not touching steering and it was still doing it. Off idle say 1-1500 rpms up is when the noise would appear. No change in driving characteristics. Put car in park/nutural reved it noise way still there. Its not loud either.

Any ideas?

Thanks heaps.

could be a power steering pump or a water pump, anything that is driven by the motor via a drive belt.
my motto; do nothing, then rest.

f**king finally home with my car! I caught the tram home from the city took me 1.5 hours. Never again I wanted to belt all the teeny boopers on the tram.

Its the alternator its fucked. Not charging above 12 and was almost stalling on the way home.

Where the hell do I get one from? Get it rebuilt? rough price?

Not sure where you are in Melbourne, but I got mine replaced with a Chinese copy for around $450 at the local Auto Electrician in Bentleigh.
LED ALL the things.

My dad somehow knows this guy! He took the car in going to rebuild my alternator. He is going to take it out and reinstall for $200.00. WTF???
