Fog lights

Post by maxleng »

ive had a quick search, and looked on completefto guides.. but what are the globes used in the fog lights? and how do you replace them?

also a question, with mine when i turn my 'parkers' on the fog lights come on, then when i turn my headlights on the main lights turn on.

The fogies have a seperate button to turn them on at anytime, but if the main lights are on the fogies are on regardless, even if you press that button.

it's a 95 GPX btw.

Whip them out and have a look - There were two types of pod to come out of factory...

You'll either have 3 bulbs (indicator, parklight, foglight)
OR
2 bulbs (indicator, parklight).

Parklight is a T10 Wedge bulb.
Foglight is a H3 bulb.

Mine originally came with the no foglight option, but still had a foglight button which just turned the parkers on... which yes, is pretty useless!

hey bro you have the same set up as mine
95 GPX pre face lift

Low Beams - HB4 they sit in the ends of the main head light
High Beams - HB3 they sit in the middle of the main head light

Parkers & Foggies - your parkers and foggies sit in the same unit with your indicators
there really a pain to take out but your foggies actually use H3 lights you have to get under neath your car and take em out and there a sh*t to put back on

i think it might be that your foggies dont work and that what your seeing is your parkers even when u press the fog light button

hahha i know i put a post about it a couple of weeks ago

A pain to take out? Nah mate, undo the screw in the front of the pod and push from behind and they'll pop right out. Couple of mins work.

Need to replace just my headlights, anyone got a good guide for this?

The other guides I've seen they are missing images (from a few years ago) so it doesn't really help.

And which store can I buy decent ones from? (ie: supercheap etc.)

really easy to do mate (i guess its the bulbs you mean)

just twist the plastic the bulb is housed in and pull the unit out of headlight then remove it from the connection to wires or you can do this first......(you may need to remove airbox first, i cant remember)

the bulbs are generic and can be bought from anywhere supercheap/autobarn ETC
HB4 for normal headlight
HB3 for high beam

go for a blue o white light if you can as standard ones are pretty average

Mine came with a foglight button, but the pods on the car only had holes for Indicators and Parkers. The original owner obviously didn't ask for fogs from factory.

As my pods were cracked, I ended up buying new pods, only these came with the space for foglights... so put some H3's in and voila.

alright so i got the lights out,

i take it these are the HB4's?:
Image
would something like these be good enough without getting a HID setup??: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PIAA-TER ... ccessories

Image

in that pic the far left are the foggies right? and are H3's?
the middle globe (the one thats out) are the parkers? and are T10 Wedge bulbs?
and far right are the indicators.

i noticed that underneath the foglights it has 12V55W, and under the parkers it has 12V5W, pic here:

Image

so does that mean i should only use 5W and 55W for the globes?
and whats the difference between these globes:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/H3-AUTOTECNICA-S ... 7C294%3A50

and these globes:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2-55W-BULBS-XENO ... 7C294%3A50

also, would LED T10's be okay to use for the parkers? something like this:

ok, ignore that last bit about the parkers, figured it out. but now i dont know whether i should get regular 4-LED bulbs or these SMD LEDs which are ment to be brighter and look better.. Does anyone have these SMD LEDs? and would you recomend them over normal ones? i might just get both there pretty cheap haha :P

SMD's:

Yup, spot on.

Ive got those SMD leds in. They're still not amazingly bright, but they are definately the whitest of all the leds i've tried. Pretty close to my 6000k hids.

nice, think il go with the SMD then

are your HID's actual HIDs or just globes that are replica HIDs? do you find 6000K is too bright, cos i dont want to get something that is blinding to other drivers haha. Do you think these phillips 5000k ones would be any good? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 0320793026

Grue, what brand are your HID's? Im planning on getting some a bit later on but not sure about what brand. I heard theres a lot of cheapo spec ones which dont last very long.

My mate told me about Kaixen which seem pretty good based on people from NS, what do guys think of em?

yeah, they're propper hids, but couldn't tell you what brand as i'm in Chicago at the mo. They were off a group buy on here a while back. They're not dazzling to other dirvers if you take a few mins to adjust them so they're pointing propperly!

I've tried the various 'ice white' branded bulbs that are meant to be a cheaper version of HIDs, and yes, they were whiter then the standard bulbs. But still nothing compared to propper HIDs. Seriously, worth the extra few $. Makes all the difference when you're driving on a rainy dark night.

And the numerical value (6000k, 8000k, etc) given to HIDs is the colour spectrum rather than the intensity. ie: http://www.meccaone.org/images/hid-chart.jpg

hey grue, with your HID's do they have a blue tinge to them at all? like if you look at it at an angle does it appear blue but other times doesnt? what im trying to say is does the colour/appearance change at different angles that it's viewed at?

the bit about your foggies comming on when you switch the parks on, its most likely the fog light switch is burnt out (quite common) this happened to mine, if you pull the switch out and disassemble it youll see its a bit melted inside..

(just a guess anyway)

I'd say there's a very tiny bit of blue in my 6000k yes, but only just. That pic is pretty much how they look in person. Pure white would be the 5000k.

As for looking at it from different angles, no not really any change - not like the new bmw, audi's etc that really do get a lot of colour change as you pass them.

Best way i can describe them is 6000k are more white than blue, whereas the 8000k are more blue than white. I was never quite sure how much police attention I'd get with the 8000k... but I know plenty of guys on here have them.

Just popped out to have a look at mine, and there's no name on them, so not much help there I'm afraid!
