FTO stalling after 5 mins

I have a problem with my FTO. It is a 1996 GPX Mivec Auto (tip).

At first the car would start normally, run for 5-10 mins and then engine would then stall. The car would stall while we were driving. It would not restart immediately. After about 5-10 mins it would restart and drive perfectly for an unlimited time.

We had is serviced and changed the fuel filter. The car worked ok for about a week and then the problem returned. This time the engine light would come on before the car stalled. The mechanic tested the code and said it was the booster control, however we do not have a turbo. He reset the computer and cleaned the throttle body and the car was fine for a few days, but then the problem returned. The problem was sporadic. Some days it would run fine, other times it would stall and we would have to wait 5-10 mins before it would start properly.

This time we had an electrician look at the car. He said that our alternator was overcharging and we had it replaced. The car worked for one day and now the problem has returned and is even worse. It will start and stall straight away. It will do the same after several attempts. It will then start normally, drive for about 5 minutes and then stall again. It will not restart until after another 5 or 10 minutes.

Today we disconnected the battery to reset the computer. After reconnecting the battery the car started perfectly. We left it to idle for 5 minutes, as instructed by the mechanic. but it stalled after only a few minutes. Once again it wouldn't restart straight away.

Please help??

Sounds like your o2 sensor is fucked, causing your fto to run too rich and then stalling...Ask your mechanic to check the o2 sensor.

thanks for your help, i would be interested if anyone would like to sell one as testing one may cost as much or take more time to organise as i am very limited with time.

i hope you all had a good easter, as i had a busy weekend as my cousin is marrying a rebel... and lucky i went home early that night as you have seen on the news that they made some trouble at star city casino.

But yeah if anyone has one i may purchase i would be geatful.

I let the car run for 5min's, then i went for a short ride and it died. the engine light came on and it shut down and would not start for 5mins. it then started and i drove for 1min and the gears became erratic, going from forth to third to second to third and then died. again waiting 5min and it drove for 1min and the same problem occurred.

Could this be the computer itself ?

Have you reset the ECU? Ie disconnect the battery for a half hour or more?

Also keep in mind, when you do this the car takes a good couple of hours of driving to 're-learn' where it is meant to idle. During this period the car will stall & f*ck around whilst it getting its sh*t together.
