Need help

Post by nikhan »

Ok...there is this black pastic lining at the top of the car where the window touches when the door is shut and there is a pretty wide gap between the black plastic ting and the main body of the car. THe gap stretches all the way to the back tiny window...anyone knows how to fix it?

Its meant to be there. If you close it up, dust will clog it and rust out the roof

It isn't meant to be THAT much of a gap though, goto a panel beater or Mitsi dealer and get some advice...

Has the car ever been crashed? It's almost like it is out of alignment.

Yeah it seems the gap is a bit too wide. I wouldnt go to Mitsu and ask them because they are sh*t...and nope the car hasnt been in any accident before

If DStocks says it supposed to be there...then it suppose to be there....lol. You woulnt wanna argue with a bloke who owns like 10 FTOs

OK, maybe I should reword that slightly. Its there on all FTO's. Ive pulled more than enough of them apart to know. And yes, there will always be a gap there

You may be able to close the gap up a litlte by removing the rubber that the window glass rests against (open door to do this) loosen off all the screws underneath it and them push it in as far as itll go and retighten, but you will never completely get rid of the gap.

hmm...ok. But does the gap extends over to the rear windows behind the door? Anyway I'll check with rest of the guys's car during our DIY day and if my gap seems abnornally wide i'll try to tighten it a bit more. Thanks heaps Dwayne

Certainly on mine it transfers through onto the rear quarter window (and mine hasnt been in a prang). the gap is about 2mm wide at the juncture between the front and rear window. All other FTO's ive seen look like this. If yours is wider, try what I suggested. The rubber takes a bit of a knack to get back into place. You need to stick one side in first and sort of roll it in.

Why not? I love to argue...

But seriously, I know there are supposed to be gaps, but that is far more than 2mm. Perhaps there is some rust there that is warping the sheet metal...

Check it before it gets bad!

Cant say ive ever seen any rust appear there before (thats not saying it cant, its just not really likely). the rust normally appears in a line about 10 cm in front of the rear screen and about the same behind the front screen and if you have a sunroof, about 5cm infront of and behind it.

Im willing to be the aluminium bracket has been removed before and hasent been adjusted properly. There is some adjustment on the holes underneath (they are oval, not round)
